Q: Lost Bootable CD/DVD for PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz with Superdrive

Hi,

Here is my question: I have a G4 for which I lost the install DVD (I know, it's stupid). I was wondering what were my options. I also have an Intel Macbook that I use on a daily basis but I'd like to keep the G4 up and running anyway.

My wife has been using it until now and I recently noticed that the fans are very loud and it is more and more difficult to load internet pages, itunes or iphoto, it heats up pretty quick... etc I was wondering if there was anything we could do to "pump it up", maybe a formatting (I come from the PC world ). In terms of apps, it's pretty much clean. It has some hard drive memory left. I don't know what to do.

So far, I've read that:
- it was veryyyyyyyyyyyy difficult to reformat/ reinstall if I don't have the DVD
- my macbook (neither its install dvd)can not help since it's an intel based
- i could look to buy something off ebay (which is not my first choice but I may end up doing it).

If anybody has an idea, I'll take it!

Thanks for your time and have a good day!

Remy

What is the capacity of the Powerbook's hard drive, and how much free space is available on it now?

Insufficient free space causes the kind of crippled performance you're seeing. If that's the problem, freeing up hard drive space by deleting or archiving off large files will probably relieve the symptoms. The ultimate solution is replacing the hard drive with a larger one.

    Hi,

Thanks for the response. Capa is 80 and I have about 30 left so I should be covered on that point.
