Q: best running system for pismo

I acquired a Pismo 500 Mhz with 768 Mb memory and 80 Gb hard drive. It has currently OS 9.2.2 installed with a DVD player.
I do have Panther installer Cds and also a Tiger DVD.
Which system would run most effortlessly and smoothly on it.
Is it best to leave OS9 on a partition to watch DVDs?

Pismo, Mac OS 9.2.x, 500Mhz, 768 Mb Ram

I have Tiger running on my Pismo 400MHz with 768MB RAM. Runs great, however due to the hardware limitations of computers of that era, graphics run a bit slow. Tiger is better than Panther because you can run more recent versions of browers, flash & other apps.

I have OS 9 on the same HD (no partition) as Tiger. I can boot to Tiger or OS 9.x, and operate in classic mode when booted in OS X. However, OS 9 on a separate partition would probably be better.

The hardware design of that era is better suited for OS 9, and OS 9 runs faster.

Does that mean watching a DVD would not be possible? Or better on the partition with OS9? Would Panther run faster than Tiger? I am currently using Panther on my iMac G3 and I like it. I use Camino as a browser. I have got Internet connection via smart phone as a modem, moderately fast, (edge with onspeed), for instance to watch youtube needs a lot of patience.

Tiger will run faster than Panther with most applications. OS X has a much larger set of system files compared to OS 9, and most OS 9 application files are smaller than OS X application files. Applications like Word will usually run faster when booted into OS 9, however, the OS 9 version of Word will not have as many features as the OS X version.

You can watch DVDs when booted in OS 9 or OS X.
