Same problem here, happened when my mouse went below 20% on the first set of batteries. I putnew ones in at about 50% and still nothing is working. It'll take forever to discover the mouse, connect for a couple seconds and say 'connection lost'.

Is it perhaps the switch? I find that the switch can get moved away from fully on just in regular usage and maybe then a sharp tap will dislodge the contacts sufficiently to cause the connection to drop. My MM isn't really bad at this, but it does drop at some time almost every day.

The biggest problem is that it REFUSES to re-connect by itself. You HAVE to force a reconnect, but that means using a mouse and the entire problem is when there is NO MOUSE to use. At the moment I keep a spare USB mouse handy, but this is a PIA. Does anyone know a way to use the keyboard to open the Bluetooth menu? Once this menu is open it's easy to use the keyboard to select the 'Connect' command, but how to open the menu? Anyone?

I charged my batteries and now it works fine. Weird.

I had this problem as well. I found that the "drop the mouse" action also reproducibly disconnected it from Bluetooth. I noticed that the aluminum battery door had developed a slight bow. I gently reversed the bow so that the door would allow less battery motion. This seems to have helped. Dropping no longer causes disconnects.

    Good luck all.

I am on my 3rd warranty replacement Magic Mouse and may have finally solved the problem. I have experienced:

    - Connection dropouts on bump (frequency increases as battery drains)
    - Random connection dropouts during use
    - Abysmal battery life (drain of around 5-10% per hour)

These issues appear to be related to battery quality. Multimeter battery tests on a failing Magic Mouse have revealed that while the battery reports 85% charge in Mac OS, the battery is actually outputting well below its expected 1.5v. I have repeatedly found that a cheaper battery will do this, for example one of those ones in a large pack from a department store that are on sale and have probably been laying around for a year or two. Such batteries are OK for torches and such (so long as your life doesn't depend on it) but not for the Magic Mouse, which seems to require a consistent near-1.5v output.

I have also noticed that a 2200 mAh rechargeable battery will not last more than a couple of days.

I have not been testing for long but my new 2450 mAh rechargeable batteries, and my new Energizer Advanced AA cells appear to be functioning very well. Tests look like taking a while as the things just aren't running out.

This possible resolution is consistent with the sporadic failure seen in these forums - with some users having no troubles, and some having extremely bad performance. It would appear that users have been purchasing a range of battery qualities.

Interested in experiences of others with this.

Bought my Mac Pro i7 in December '09 and the Mighty Mouse disconnects every few days. Seems to do it when I'm scrolling more than anything. Also I use rechargeable batteries and hot off the charger I only show 86% Battery Level. Would think it would be higher. Used a new set of Alkaline batts just to see if it was the rechargeable batts but I got the same reading. Thankfully I bought the wired keyboard.

I too have had this problem though the trick found in the link below seems to fix my issue. Primarily just below the apple logo on the 27" iMac.

The latest Magic Mouse software update seems to have fixed this issue.

I have been having the same problem and am considering my 3rd replacement for the magic mouse. I just tried taking out the batteries and cleaning the entire mouse, and that appears to be helping a lot! I think perhaps dust gets in the bottom of the mouse and interferes with the contact to the batteries. Maybe that is why changing the batteries helped so many people?

I just cleaned by Magic Mouse battery contacts with a pencil eraser and, although its too soon to say for sure, it appears to have made the disconnects go away.

I was having serious problems with battery life so I finally got rechargeable. When I did, I started experiencing the bluetooth disconnect issue. I tried a few things like putting a folded piece of paper under the battery compartment hatch, but that didn't help too much.

FInally, I got a wooden pencil, freshened up the rubber/eraser on the pencil by using it on a piece of paper until it was all freshly exposed rubber and I used this to clean the contacts inside the mouse and on the batteries. I used canned air to blow out the eraser crumbs, but you can probably tap them out.

Again, I just did this in the last 15 minutes, so I may be premature, but I couldn't go 3 minutes before without a disconnect. I will post this and keep using my system and, if it disconnects again, I will follow up. If you do not see a follow up, assume that I am happily mousing away.

Almost 24 hours since I cleaned the battery contacts and so far not one single disconnect.

Same problem here. It started today. Batteries are new and the mouse had worked fine for a couple of months now.

    Un abrazo,
    Robby!

Ok, this will be my last update one this... I am convinced that cleaning the battery contacts fixed my problem. I have had zero disconnects in the last three days since cleaning with the eraser. Prior to that I had disconnects every 5 minutes or so.

My Magic Mouse starting having the disconnect problem when the warm/hot and humid/nasty weather began. Scraping the contacts of the mouse and the batteries seems to address the issue for a few days.

I've had the same problem with my magic mouse and from reading what you guys are saying it definitely sounds like a problem with the battery connections. Every time I even slightly tap my mouse it disconnects.

As a solution, I've rolled up a small bit of paper and jammed it in between the batteries, and also laid another piece of paper across the top of both batteries to make sure they are 100% secure. Seems to have fixed the problem so far.
