Jan 30, 2010 10:06 AM in response to WindRoweby fruhulda,When you install Snow Leopard make sure you install Rosetta too. If you miss it you can do it later.
I always Repair permissions before and after a major installation. You can use the Disc Utility you have in the Utility folder or Onyx a third party application that is free.
When the installation is done upgrade to 10.6.2 by using the combo update, not the smaller update that Software update check uses. You will get a newer Hoefler font with the combo update.
Alway when updating it is vise to update any application that doesn't seem to work as it should- By now most apps have updates if needed.
iPhoto is now 8.1.1 and works fine on my computer. I really haven't had much problem from upgrading to SL from the start as I am aware that some applications might have issues at start. -
Jan 30, 2010 2:11 PM in response to fruhuldaby 76papa,Thanks all. I have a bid on a AW install disc at ebay. I certainly did like AW and would hate to lose it.

One thing to check, Al:
Find out if the installer on that disk runs in PS 9 or OS X. The AppleWorks application actually installed will be a package with both OS 9 and OS X versions, but on earlier disks the application that does the installation was an OS 9 app, which is not supported on the intel based Macs.
The changeover came, I think, sometime in the AW version 6.2.2 run. Peggy may have more precise version/date information.

Definitely will want to do the upgrade, then. AW 6.2.7 was a very buggy version.

Feb 3, 2010 7:40 PM in response to Dianef94@aol.comby Ausdaz,I would also prefer to stick with AppleWorks; I've been using it since about Version 1! I'm curently using V.6.2.9. However, I'm finding it's not only running really slowly and crashing all the time but I have other problems:
1. Quite often, when I try to open a document when AppleWorks is running, I click File then Open, then on the document name; 'open' doesn't highlight down the bottom, I get the swirly circle, then I have to force quit as it shows AppleWorks as 'Not Responding' in the Force Quit box. I then have to open the HD, find the document, click on it and then let it launch AppleWorks and it works.
2. Also, when I have a document open and want to reformat it, I go to Format then Document and a box comes up with no measurements in it, and it won't allow me to type any in, it just comes up with 'invalid number'.
I've read all the posts from people saying they've got AppleWorks running fine with Snow Leopard; what's the secret? I don't want to have to re-start with the old system just to run AppleWorks stuff. And seeing as I run my own WP business and use it all the time, you can understand my frustration.
I'd be grateful for any help...before I'm tempted to throw the computer out the window!
Thanks...
Take care
Marianne

You can also get a small app named "AppleWorks Mechanic 2" which will do the work for you. Sidekicks is another one. -

Feb 4, 2010 4:07 PM in response to Barryby Ausdaz,Hi Barry & fruhulda,
Thanks very much for the tips, I'll investigate them today. Anything that will help will be fantastic as my only other option is to use Word and I really hate that programme. It's typical Microsoft, why make things simple to use when you can make them complicated? lol
Take care

Feb 8, 2010 3:54 PM in response to fruhuldaby eas1,I have downloaded from the upper right down load button. I get a message that says something about US Appleworks not in specified location.... -
Feb 8, 2010 11:50 PM in response to eas1by Barry,eas1,
Check your Applications folder for a folder named "AppleWorks 6". If it's not there, find it and drag it to the Applications folder.
Open the Appleworks 6 folder and look for a package named "AppleWorks 6.app" (the .app extension may be hidden), and for these other items:
Folders:
AppleWorks 6 Documentation
AppleWorks Essentials
AppleWorks Extra Fonts
AppleWorks Extras
AppleWorks Users Group
Clippings
Late-breaking News
Starting Points
File
AppleWorks Web Site
bootdrive > Applications > AppleWorks 6 is the 'specified location for the AppleWorks 6 application and for at least the AppleWorks Essentials folders. (I think some, but not all of the others are also 'essential.')
The message means either there is a mismatch between the application and the updater, or the updater cannot find one or more of the essential items at the correct location.

Barry
