    Fullshred,

I owe you one. I had iMovie in a separate apps folder that I had created for just video projects. After moving iMovie over to the Applications folder and installed the update, all worked perfectly.

    THANK YOU!!!

Well I'll add my piece, too
It's only been since the summer for me that I've been losing projects after hours of work the previous day, so now i am extremely leery whenever I want to work in iMovie.

Ran into a new problem of my own (actually 2)
which didn't get solved, so I tried a work around.

I broke up the concert into the individual songs: create new project, drag the appropriate section of the raw clip into it then edited then shared that project to the media browser. Then started a new project, selected the section of clip I needed, edited, shared, etc, etc.

These were going into iWeb, so as one project appeared in the Media Browser, i dragged it into the web page. Did this with 6 clips then quit for the night. Everything working fine.

Tonight: Went to finish off the last 3 sections (hadn't started them yet at least) and lo and behold, the 6th project that i did (and shared) last night was empty! +*Even though the project list showed that it _had been shared_ and the shared clip was accessible in the browser*+

At any rate, i continued with my 'new project, edit, share' routine to finish off the last clips.

I thought that there might be a way to 'import' project 6 from the Media browser, but iMovie *+can't access+* the media Browser except to share to it.

So that's my current safe method: but then I'm working with mini projects that only take <15 minutes to share. (bigger projects I do in Final Cut !!)

... then of course there's the 'project won't show in preview window/gray screen' problem, which funnily showed up just this week after i updated my OS ... another story

I thought my iMovie projects didn't save when I opened them and the clips were there but not the movie I put together. I moved my "Movies" file up to the top level where "documents" are and when I opened what I thought were the same files, all my movies that I put together were there. I also have iMovie in the Applications folder. That sure reduced my frustration. Hope this helps.

Wow apple, what the **** are you doing not even acknowledging this giant flaw? I'm on the same boat as the rest of you guys, I've lost 3 projects that I spent countless days working on due to apples ****** software. You guys charge us up the *** for your products, yet they can't even properly do what they're made to do? +What the ****+ is the matter with you guys?

You should really stop talking **** about PC's, you ***** can't even add a simple 'Save...' or 'Save as...' feature that windows would. Stop ripping off your customers and saying all that extra money goes to 'R/D', obviously your techies are too ******* incompetent to make a decent computer (or chargers, or software for that matter).

And I'm not sorry for the cursing. It seems like my Macs had more problems then I did with my PC. I'm not paying to stand around with my thumb up my *** while you scrubs take your sweet time doing absolutely nothing. Pathetic.

Just started here, and with a MAC, Like the I-movie app - but disappointed to find that an issue that's been bubbling away on this forum since February last year - is still affecting me now in the following year!

I find that the Text on the credits, in particular, keeps reverting to older versions - even though I've burnt DVD's (proving to myself that I did the edits right once at least!) - I will try the French Solution.....but it seems like poor software design to me.......are MAC guys really too trendy for a sensible "Save As" option? (shame!)

    Cheers

When you finish editing your text, be sure to click "done". That is all you have to do. If you leave the text dialog open, it will not save.

    Thanks AppleMan,

I made the edits correctly (I copied one title credit to another still photo and had to re-write the name and character at the end of my film) - so I don't know whether it's because I copied a Title Credit (I'm using Comic Book Theme) rather than adding a new blank title from scratch that's giving me the grief.

I went on to send the project to iDVD - where I made 6 copies of the DVD - I had a little panic the next day when I re-opened the iMovie Project and found that my Title Credits were back to their old un-edited form....I double checked the DVD's and they were ok - so I must have saved them correctly to make the DVD...just those changes weren't "auto-saved" in iMovie.

I've taken to making duplicate projects in the Project Library window - in the hope that the act of making a duplicate will somehow register all the edits in one or both of the projects before I exit - dunno if it works just makes me feel better to do something!

I guess those of us coming over from the PC were looking forward to sampling some of this much vaunted stability and quality Apple Programming.....but it seems software is just software ...it has bugs in it! (at least we're used to that!)....there's definitely something wrong here though - hopefully it'll get fixed soon!

    Cheers

I figured this out with the help of AppleCare this morning. It fixed my not saving issue at least.

What I had to do was get info on my whole user folder and switch permissions for me to read/write though it was before and then apply to all enclosed items. This took my Mac about 15 minutes. After this we moved the iMovie events and project folders to the desktop out of user/movies, then reopened iMovie so it would recreate the folders and then closed iMovie. Next, I moved the files from inside their folders on the desktop into their respective folders inside the user/movies folder.

After this all of my projects opened and saved perfectly.

Okay, new to this forum / thread. I found it after spending many MANY hours working on a project but didn't export it or share it with anything and then quit iMovie 'cause it was late at night and wanted to get some sleep. Well, couldn't sleep and came back to the project. THE ENTIRE THING, EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST CLIP I ADDED, WAS COMPLETELY GONE! Now, no matter what I do, everytime I make a change (add another clip, add a transition, etc.), nothing saves. If I quit iMovie and come back to the project, the only thing that is there is the original clip I added when I first made the project.

How's THAT for auto saving? It's not saving ANYTHING! If I want to do this project I guess I'm gonna have to do the entire thing and then share it / burn it to DVD to keep any of my work! Nice... Think they could come up with a fix for this bug??

    Hi everyone,
I was wondering, could the save issue be caused by wrong permissions? Maybe iMovie can't access the folder and can't save the file.
    I don't know.....just a thought.
