I am about to purchase a powermac and will be editing an HDV project. The 23" HD display is pushing the package price above my limit, however... I've just noticed that Dell has 19 and 26 inch LCD TVs with VGA and DVI-HDCP connections. The price is much better, even on the 26 inch model, and I could use the unit as a TV as well. However, there are some technical differences:
Resolution: Dell is 1280 x 768. The 23" cinema is 1920 x 1200 (optimal).
NIT rating: Dell is 450. The 23" cinema is 270 cd/m2 (this is NIT, right?)
Viewing angle: Dell is +/- 85. The 23" cinema is +/- 170.
Contrast ratio: Dell is 500:1. The 23" cinema is 400:1.
Given all that, is the Dell a viable alternative for editing HDV? Could it actually be better, since I will be seeing the output on a TV monitor? Does the interlace/progressive difference come into play here? Anything else to watch out for?
