Same problem here in Campbellton, NB. I have a ticket open with Telus since December 23, 2 days after I bought my iPhone. I did a full restore, and the problem only seems less frequent since, but it still happens once or twice a day. Switching to airplane mode and back does NOT work for me.

I tried something new, and it seems to work: after having driven around with my 3GS on Telus and having lost service, as it always does, go to Settings, General, Network, disable 3G, wait a few seconds, then enable it again. ALL the service bars should reappear. It's the only fix I've found that does not involve restarting the phone. Hope this helps a few people out there.

Hey I had the same problem as well just after I restored my iPhone I removed it before I could update carrier settings... bad move. But I followed what you said and restored it again and now things seem to work perfectly thank you. My question is why does the phone exactly display that message even when you are subscribed to a data plan. I know you said it could have been the iPhone not being set up right but what could have caused it to mess up?

    Thanks

I'm having an issue as well.

I have a Bell iPhone, and live in Vancouver. Every time I go under a tunnel, I naturally lose signal. However, when I exit the tunnel, my iPhone will continue to remain out-of-service. Turning airplane mode off and on does not correct the problem. The only solution is to do a reboot. Seeing as I take the train to and from work, I need to reboot my iPhone twice a day.

I've called Technical Solutions, and they claim a lot of Bell iPhone users are experiencing this, and just added my information to their main "ticket".

May I suggest to the people that are having the no service issue on their iphone to do the following:
Settings / Carrier (wait untill the iphone sees what is available in the area), then select your provider. In theory your handset will only scan for your carrier and no other, so you should not get no service anymore where there is available coverage as your iphone will get rejected connectivity when it is trying to hook up on another carrier when in automatic mode and will display no service for 20-25 minutes untill it scans again, or untill you reboot your iphone.

    It is worth a try

I want to buy an iphone and I am trying to decide which network to go with. Telus seems to have better prices and everything I am reading seems to suggest that the new bell/telus network is at least as fast as the Rogers network. I see in this forum however that people are having problems with the new telus network. Have there been any improvements or are people still having issues? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I signed up with Telus in December and have had a lot of problems with the iphone disconnecting from the network and not reconnecting without a restart even in an area with full service bars. However, things have improved dramatically since mid-January. I haven't had a problem in almost a month. Other than that, I love my iphone. Also, I suspect the iphone to be prone to losing service if your sim card is not aligned perfectly in the tray, especially if there are plastic shavings left on the side of the sim card.

I tried this for almost a week and it works better. The only thing is I keep getting a badge saying lost connection but a button to dismiss or cancel.

When I loose a signal, it comes back within 10 or 20 seconds.

I talked to Bell and they confirmed that there is no confirmation as to when the ticket will be resolved.

Bell has resolved the issue in my area. My iPhone now immediately reverts back to service mode after entering and leaving a low coverage area (ie. tunnels, etc).

Agreed. The lost network problem definitely appears to be resolved. I have not had the problem for 5 days now.

Called Bell and got at $75 credit for compensation.

Is it good enough? I live in Vancouver, and two days ago I went to downtown, first time since I bought my iphone two weeks ago. I lost signal when the skytain went into tunel, it get the signal back when I board on the final station. But that is not good enough, you don;t have any signal in tunnel while you see people around still talk on the phone. Why they don;t get affected? I don't have signal problem before with other phone (I was with Fido though).

Well. If you follow this thread, the problem appears to be solved and I have not had any issue of 5 consecutive days, it seemed like the problem has been solved.

I have lost connection several times in the last 5 days... underground, elevators and within seconds of coming out of the dead zone, I get full signal. It looks like it is solved.

Is $75 enough ... probably not. but I can get on with my life.

However if the problem resumes (like you report), that is a different issue.

I've had this problem since day one. I live in a condo in Thornhill, whenever I park my car underground, phone looses reception to No Service. When i get upstairs it stays at No service until i have to reboot the phone. I've gone to apple and they've switched my phone a few times, same issue.
I used to have an iphone on rogers, never had this problem.
