Feb 26, 2010 10:30 AM in response to Martijn Bosby spudnuty,★HelpfulHey Martijn and Welcome to Apple Discussions,iBook won't come on; if I start it, the fan just starts blazing)
That sounds like the Corey Arnold Problem:

You might be able to pull the bottom and the bottom shield. Put pressure on U28 and get it to at least boot into target mode. Once there you could pull your info that way.
Otherwise you could use one of these:

They had one that was $5 cheaper and did SATA, IDE 2.5 and 3.5 that I bought but I can't see it there now.I just wanbt to dig out the harddrive and salvage my data.
Email me if you need instructions. Also I repair and donate iBooks into the inner city if you'd like to do that.

Feb 26, 2010 1:24 PM in response to spudnutyby Martijn Bos,Thanks for your comments. I'll certain try the c-clamp/pressure option first.
Would this work to salvage my data:

Ohh I wouldn''t do the C clamp thing. U28 is not in that area targeted by that technique. Also people have killed their hard drives doing that.
This is the chip.

I bridge the pins indicated to SMT devices on the logic board to repair this problem.
You could use the shim technique as described in the Corey Arnold site.Would this work to salvage my data:

Yes and it' s even cheaper than the one I use.
Email me if you need instructions on taking it apart.

Mar 1, 2010 2:52 AM in response to spudnutyby Abscate,Martijn I just bought an enclosure for one my 'extra' hard drives I replaced based on age (6 years). I use it for local transfer of stuff. Ill look up the details and post. I recall about 40 USD with a coupon. -
Mar 3, 2010 7:22 AM in response to Abscateby Martijn Bos,Thank you both for your comments. I went 'in' yesterday to put some pressure on the U28 and found that the hard drive was actually disconnected. Reconnected the hard drive and also put some pressure on the U28 and it's been running like a charm since! -

Wow that is unusual! The 1.33 has an adapter that connects directly to the logic board, so for that to come loose is really unusual.
Anyway glad it worked out.
Thanks for the stars.
