When I try to launch Aperture 3 I get the message "Aperture cannot access this library To use this library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly" How do I get beyond this? How can I set permission on the library?
Powerbook, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Are your libraries on external drives? If so, right click on the drive and scroll down to "Get Info". At the very bottom of the "Get info" dialog box, look to see if the "Ignore ownership on this volume" box is checked. If not, check it and see if that helps.

In LR, if that box is unchecked, the library on the drive can't be accessed. Perhaps the same is true with A3.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching Aperture. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Note: Repairing Permissions with Disk Utility only works on System Files.
