Currently Being ModeratedSep 14, 2005 4:25 PM (in response to eric lockovitch)It seems a lot of people are having problems with AE and v5.0. Is there a way to revert to 4.9 until this problem is resolved?
I made sure I'm using 4.2 AE and followed the rebbot/unplug reboot of the AE and computer.
The AE shows in itunes, just won't allow me to connect. Still says it's being used by somoeone else but I'm on a secured modem, 2wire homeportal with 128 byte encryption.
I would really like to go back to 4.9 until this is fixed.
I've rebooted AE many times today, turned security on and off on the modem, nothing works.
The odd thing is the AE shows up at the bottom in itunes. It also is active on my wifi modem, 2 wire.
The only thing I changed before the problem was upgrading to 5.0 from 4.9. Since then I've update my AE with all the updates, 6.1, 6.1.1, and 6.2.
Why would itunes detect that it was being used by someone else? How could it detect that?
Eric - the error message that the Airport Express is "being used by someone else" is not really telling you the true nature of the problem. I think what is happening here is due to a software bug in iTunes 5.0, rather than a real problem with another user tying up the Airport Express. I really think this is a problem we are not going to be able to solve - it is going to require a fix from Apple.
I hear you. it seems a lot of windows people are having trouble with 5.0, other reasons. i found a link to 4.9 and unistalled 5.0 QT 7.0. fortunetly i have all my files on an external otherwise i would have lost it all. i'm not that versed in the back doors of itunes yet, getting better.
how do you contact apple directly on issue like this?
To talk to a real Apple tech support person, you need to call AppleCare - see http://www.apple.com/contact/
Unless you have AppleCare warranty coverage for a recent Mac purchase you will be charged for the support call before they start talking to you - and it's not cheap.
