Title says it all. Freshly formatted and restored. I went to sync it and it got to around 8gigs of music and then froze. I tried to eject it through iTunes and it froze. Eject through finder, and finder froze, eject through Disk Utility, froze. I can't eject it. It won't sync. What do I do?

Macbook First Gen, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

    Hi,

Did you connect your ipod to PC through an USB hub? I used to have the same problem. My ipod can't sync past a limit and it always froze.

I suggest you don't use an USB hub if you are using 1. If not, try to connect to other USB ports and see if it works.

I am on a MacBook, and connecting straight to USB. I've tried different ports/cables. I've noticed it always freezes around 8.7gb. Could this be an error or damaged area of the hard disk?

Exactly the same freezing issue. So much so I haven't used it in ages but have picked it up now.

Ipod Classic 80GB, Software Version: 1.1.2, Format: Windows
Itunes Version: 9.0.2.25 on computer Windows XP Professional Version 2002.

Does not synch with iTunes fully. Synchs music for 5minutes then iTunes freezes/crashes.
Have run a chkdisk on ipod. No problems.
Scanned for virus’ on ipod. No problems.
Does it on home and work computer.

Have checked internet forums and seems to be a common problem with no response from Apple...at all.

This has to be the latest version of I-tunes. It has been doing this to a lot of people. They better fix it fast if they want people to continue to purchase their products.

I am having the same problem. I decided to do a complete restore as I was having the skipping/freezing songs problem like so many others on here. When I tried to put all the songs back it would freeze up at a random song. I had to yank the cord w/out properly ejecting the iPod just so I could restart iTunes. I don't know what to do about this. I know if I send it back they are just going to give me another one with more problems. I am seriously considering sending my 5g in to get the battery replaced....not as much space, but it never gave me an trouble other than the dying battery after 1,000's of hours of use.

Can anyone out there help??? Please????

Am having the exact same problem. Started doing this a month ago when I tried adding new albums to the iPod. When I deleted all the new albums, the problem was fixed.
However, the problem started up again this week.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Not 100% if this is the same problem but I seemed to be having the same problem.. I have a 80gb classic and restored it resently and had the same problem, while it was syncing it would go so far and then stop and freeze everything, but I noticed when it attempts to sync it tries to update songs before syncing the remaining songs and noticed it froze on the same song every time. I deleted the song and it went fine afterwards. I had to do this 2 or 3 times but it seems to be working OK now. These songs I had to delete were on my HD for a while so I'm guessing the new release of Itunes had something to do with it...

Add me to the list of folks having this problem. It is really beggining to **** me off. I own an 80gb ipod classic, not sure which version, that I bought I guess about 2 years ago. I've never had any problems with it at all and have really enjoyed owning it. I have all of my music, about 33,500 songs worth, stored on an external hard drive. I used to use itunes on my old desktop pc but am now using my new 13' macbook pro that I bought last September. Just a couple of days ago, I wanted to put a couple of new albums on my ipod that I had just bought. I added them to itunes with no problem at all. When I tried to put them on my ipod, itunes froze after importing a few of the songs. I thought it might be time to restore my ipod and start from scratch. Now that I've done that, I'm trying to refill my ipod now and while I am able to get some music on it, it always freezes up on me after a while not allowing me to get all of my music on the ipod. I use the manual sync option as I like to control what all goes on my ipod and I have way more gb of music on itunes than my 80gb ipod will hold. I have tried doing this on both my mac and my pc with the same freeze results on both.

I am very frustrated!! I am a total music nerd and really want to fill my ipod up again with my favorite albums! Anybody found a solution yet? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Add me to the list, too. 80GB iPod classic freezes at around 14GB. If I put less then that on it will work, otherwise iTunes slows while syncing and then freezes. I've restored repeatedly. Just updated iTunes as well. More then a bit frustrated.

I have the same issue....i was playing music from my ipod through itunes last night and itunes decided to freeze. And then my whole computer froze. I manually disconnected the ipod after about 10min and my computer slowly returned to normal. So i tried it again after about 10min. Same thing happened. So i decided to check the ipod; i can navigate the ipod (even watch some music videos) but i can't play a single song. When I try to, the song screen comes up but it never begins to play. Instead, my ipod starts making loud whirring/clocking noises until i shut it down. Since I can't even get the song list from my computer, I'd really prefer not to have to restore the whole ipod and lose everything (my songs are from a few different family computers).

I have the same problem. I had an old 30GB ipod video which synced beautifully with my computer (still rocking an ibook g4). After it died i got an ipod classic 120GB. Everything seemed to be going well, then my ipod suddenly needed to be restored. I lost a lot of my music, when i restored it I had to download itunes 8.0 (or something like that)

Ever since then, it's only gotten worse. Ever new version of itunes that i download and every update i put on my ipod just irritates the problem. I used to have to restore my ipod any time i wanted to put music on it. It stopped syncing at about 33 songs one time, so i left it...came back the next morning to find it at 34 songs. Now every time i connect it itunes gives me the beach ball of death, so i can't even restore it. The only way to shut itunes down when that happens is to unplug my ipod (which stays frozen on the "do not disconnect" screen).

I don't think it has anything to do with my computer...it's old, but i recently got a new hard drive for it, and it should be compatible with my ipod and all of the software. It seems to be itunes or my ipod/combination of the two. GRRRRRR

hopefully if enough people have this problem apple will do something about it without charging us an insane amount.
