Q: Memory upgrade in 12/640 PS

Hi there: I've just installed 16MB of memory in my beloved old 12/640 PS, finally going beyond the stock 4MB. Now: the manual says I have to update the printer software on the computers, but I suspect that with OSX that's not necessary. Could someone please confirm that for me, or else indicate how to proceed? Thanks in advance!

    If you open:
System Preferences > Print & Fax
then select the name of the printer, you can click on ( Printer Setup ) button, and a pane opens.

In that pane select "Installable Options" and you will often see a memory option. Set it as close to the actual numbers as you can, and do not lose sleep over whether it is exactly the same as the RAM now in your Printer.

When a postscript printer does not have enough memory, it is forced to image the page in broad stripes, ignoring the parts of objects that cannot fit in that stripe. Then it must image it all again, drawing into the next stripe. If you had only 4 MB, you should see a speed increase, especially when printing graphics and documents with multiple fonts and non-resident fonts.
