This thread is a continuation of [Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2218213]. The thread was becoming too long and was causing some browsers to time out. The older thread has been locked.

Too bad. We loose the continuity of all that has transpired before. Strange that my browser has had not difficulty at all with the length of the thread...I using plain old Safari...

I had an iMac purchased on Black Friday last year and returned it for a refund in January. It is so disappointing to hear that people are still receiving new machines with this issue. I so want to buy a new iMac, but this is convincing me that the issue is still not fully fixed and I need to keep waiting. Hurry up Apple and release the next update to the iMac that fixes this issue. I want my beautiful 27 inch screen iMac back!!!

I am in the same position as you: waiting to step in and buy. But it strikes me that the people complaining are a small percentage of those who have bought the iMac. There are a few hundred thousand of the machines sold by now with the number of recorded issues looking like it may be a single digit percent of the total. The vast majority of those buying this machine do not visit this discussion forum and their satisfied voices are not being recorded. Still there are those who have recorded several machines being received and returned with no satisfying resolutions. I can only tell you I have a number of friends and business associates with the iMac who look at me cross eyed when I mention the "problems". I also took the trouble to visit several of the Apple stores in my area and I could not find a 27"iMac with the screen issues mentioned. Go figure...

99% of buyers haven't a clue about the problem. Trust me, if they knew and looked for them, they would see the flaws. Every new iMac I've looked at has the shadow at the bottom of the screen and some white balance non-uniformity (i.e. "yellow tinge")

Maybe it is a strange question. But do you guys recognize less yellow after installing the new mac osx 10.6.3 update?

It looks like mine is less yellow, but maybe I am wrong.

This yellow thing is SO subjective some times... After applying the update, at first I thought that the yellow was gone... but some minutes later I think I saw the tinge. Well... one thing is CERTAIN, the temperature is higher!

I think you're right. My display is looking much better - cleaner and whiter. I can hardly believe my eyes. Is this the cure?!

This whole thread is all about OCD. You see this sort of thing in any forum. The audiophiles are always discussing/complaining about this or that AVR system. Videophiles in HD forums are always discussing/complaining about perceived imperfections in satellite or cable transmissions. They are more interested in complaining about sound dropouts or pixelation than the content of the shows they are watching. The politicos absolutely love to dissect every word of a political speech to find hidden agendas. There are people who obsess about anything. Their whole existence is about finding fault with something, anything. And when they find each other on the internet they feed on each other's obsessions. They count thread views and try to extrapolate that into vindication of their obsessions. It's a sickness. This thread will never end if allowed to fester on. There are already complaints about the closing of the old thread, something about continuity or such.

There's no magic cure. Bumping up the temperature will make it less yellow at the bottom at the expense of it being cooler (bluer) at the top. Personally, even when I'm editing photos, my main focus is in the middle to upper portion of the screen. I'm not concern about the yellow on the bottom, though that's not to say it is not important to some folks who edit photos professionally and need the ENTIRE 2560x1440 and demand every single one of the 3686400 pixels to be 100% true.

Personally, I don't think this update does anything, though through the power of suggestion (as someone already said it looks like it did something), I think my screen is more yellow now than before. Haha.

upgrading to the latest version of Mac OS did not change anything on my iMac...

One short story I would like to share with you.
Popped into the apple store in Rome on my lunch break today.
Found a genius available, and explained the situation. I wanted to be assured that by changing the screen, things would have been perfect.
What he said instead was that:
    - he was aware of yellow tinge on 21,5' models
    - they are still very frequent
    - changing the screen could solve the issue, but he could not guarantee a good result
    - returning this one and buying a new one at the apple store would have been very similar: a certain degree of possibility to get a yellow one
    - at the end he asked me if I had a screen already, and suggested I go with a mac mini instead...

After that i did not need to hear anything else... These screens are flawed. That's it.

PS something even funnier. I told him that I could maybe see the yellow tinge on the iMacs on display at the apple store. But said that I wasn't sure the tinge was there.
He replied that yes it was there, it was just the lights in the store that made it harder to see it!!! I was like OMG, he's not even trying to defend at least these ones.. he's being way too honest and open about the issue now...
