How do you delete photo from the iPad? There's no trash can like the iPhone.

Remove photos you don't want in iTunes then sync.

How about if you want to keep them in itunes, but just not have them on your iPad, perhaps due to space considerations?

In that case it depends on how you currently sync photos. If you sync from your iPhoto library you can create an album of only the pics you want. Then with the iPad connected select it from the iTunes sidebar and click on the Photos tab. Select the second option, "Selected albums ...." The album list will appear. Locate the album you just made and check it.

If you are synching from a folder of pictures, then make a new folder that only contains the pics you want synced. Then choose that folder in iTunes-Photos as the folder to sync.

And if I already downloaded 1,000 photos to the iPad because there wasn't an option to choose individual ones, is there a way to remove some?

There were options, but you chose to act before you knew what to do. Sometimes it's better to test the water before jumping in.

For both devices - plug them into the computer.

You will see them listed in Device under the Store Tab on the left in iTunes

Across the top you will see various tabs under the display in iTunes.

There is Summary, Info, Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcast, ITunes U, Books and Photos (for iPad, similar for iPod)

Check Synch Photos from iPhoto in Photos Tab and the radio button for selected Albums and Events

Check the Albums and/or Events you want

The press Synch on the lower right.

Yes I had the same issue. I wanted to download "Sherlock Holmes" as a rental but needed to remove a video to make room. Not a problem, oh wait, maybe it is. Syncing to REMOVE a file seems too cumbersome.

From the users manual: Deleting Videos from iPad
To save space you can delete videos from iPad.
Delete a video: In the videos list, tap and hold a movie until the delete button appears, then tap . Tap Cancel or Home when you finish deleting videos.
When you delete a video (other than rented movies) from iPad, it isn’t deleted from your iTunes library on your computer, and you can sync the video back to iPad later. If you don’t want to sync the video back to iPad, set iTunes to not sync the video. See “Syncing” on page 28.
Important: If you delete a rented movie from iPad, it’s deleted permanently and can’t be transferred back to your computer.

Kappy, thank you. I know I can manipulate the files in iTunes to re-load just the photos I want onto the iPad. What I was looking for was how to get individual photos off of the iPad utilizing only the iPad, for instance if I was traveling.
See my reply also to Drew13.

    Calvin, Drew13:

Same here. The red Delete button is inactive. Perhaps this is something Apple can look into.
