Strange ... Nobody missing these 4 apps that were on any iPhone and iPod touch???

So if I buy an iPad I won't have a timer? A stopwatch? An alarm clock? Check the Apple stock value? Calculate even the most simple calculations? Check the weather?

Is Apple really letting 3rd party developers provide these apps? :-(((

I want those apps from Apple!!!

I absolutely agree. My guess is that Apple will be providing them in due course. No matter, we should all send feedback to Apple to get their undivided attention on this.

Weather and stocks (for me) no big issue. But I went to set a timer this morning and .... okay, grab the iPhone. Hope these are being reworked and we pick it (them) up soon.

    Here, here!!

These quick, simple, clean apps from apple beat the 3rd party products 99% of the time.

Why leave them out? (some extra green in the pocket book?)

    Say it isn't so.

I generally agree, but what I'm starting to find is that some of the apps are not that useful anymore as using the standard web interface is superior. I see that with Facebook and eBay. I'd probably also rather go to my stocks web page too but am not to that point yet. I imagine weather being similar. The Safari experience is far superior on the iPad, potentially eliminating some app needs.

I was surprised they weren't included. Third party apps don't run in the background, so it's hard to find a decent alarm clock. I wish they had included these simple apps. I really need an alarm clock.

Yeah, alarm clock and simple calculator are a must. After all, iPad is to challenge netbook computer. What was Apple thinking? Every once in a while Apple enjoys shooting their own foot!

Yeah, the missing alarm clock is a pain.

I am used to going to sleep and waking up my iPod Touch. (no snide comments please
What I mean is, doing a little lite reading or browsing before I fall asleep, and then waking up to the built in alarm clock. Works every time.
I was hoping to do the same with the iPad, but now have to look for and test out a reliable free clock that always works. So far have not found any.

The stocks and weather I can do without, as those were rudimentary anyway, and if a simple view is needed, a basic portal webpage or even iGoogle will suffice.
Other calculators are better then stock anyway, since stock iPhone calc has no scientific functions.

I can't believe this topic isn't TOPS on the list for discussions. I've had the iPad for 30 hours now and I'm writing my very first post to a message board. Something is sooooo wrong with a device that is sooooo RIGHT!!!

Apple, you MUST have the same basic aps as the iTouch. This is a DEAL BREAKER. The iPad MUST have (in this order of importance) a Clock, a Calculator, Weather and Stocks. I can live without iBooks, but NOT these.

Let me emphasis this... the iPad MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST have these.

iPhone calculator has scientific functions. You turn the phone to landscape. So obvious and so intuitive design from Apple.

You obviously never turned your iPod touch to landscape mode when in the Calculator or Stocks app, right? Otherwise you wouldn't have called those apps rudimentary ...

Ah yes, I stand corrected. I remember seeing that once in the newer software, but I never really use the iPhone calculator that much. I'm mainly a Windows person, and only use iPod and stuff for media and web browsing. I would normally use Excel for match functions, or the standard Windows calculator has the non-standard functions I would need most: hex to dec conversion. (or Touch Calc app has it too) For stocks I use eTrade, not the iPhone app. But the Alarm Clock...now that was truly useful!

    hello;

Yes, I totally agree that by Apple not having these 4 basic apps
does not make any sense. Being an engineer I use the calculator
all the time, traveling I use the clock and weather. I really miss
    these apps on the iPad.

Logically, the iPad should have the same suite of apps that the
iPhone/iPod touch have on them out-of-the-box.

BY not having the same suite of apps does not make sense to
me. It is not logical to not have the same suite of apps.

When will Apple provide weather, clock, and calculator for the
iPad that are the same as the ones on the iPhone/iPod touch?

This goes back to what my friend warned me about.
"Do not buy version 1.0 of anything, wait till version 2.1 so that
the bugs and such are all worked out."

    Perhaps, I should have listened.
