Q: Wifi Not connecting

OK, my connecting problems have been solved. After spending almost 2 hrs on the phone with an Apple Tech, we decided to see if my ISP could help shed some light on this. After about an hour with him, the problem was solved. It is probably a unique situation applying only to me but I'll spell out the background and the solution.

My ISP is a wireless ISP; I have a "subscriber module" on my TV antenna mast pointed to "radios" on a tower that is on a mountain top and is about 15 miles line-of-sight away. OK, last year I was having problems where when I launched AirPort Utility not only did MY AirPort Base Station show up, but also those of anyone else on my "node". In order to stop this "shadowing" my ISP changed a setting in the equipment on the mountain. While changing that setting did not affect my iMacs, PowerBook, or iPhone connecting to the Internet, it apparently did for the iPad.

OK, so what was this setting? What the ISP had done was to "NAT" the radios. Setting the radios back to the standard setting, i.e. removing the "NAT" allowed the iPad to connect to the Internet. HTH someone else.

Those are both okay - its the addresses that start with 169 that are the 'no connection' ones.

I assume everyone has their HTTP proxy set as OFF in the Settings ?

Hmm you know that might be a clue. When I connect to a "shared" connection to my laptop it connects fine. NAT is on because it's a shared connection. The larger network NAT is not on.

Hey Chris. I actually had the same exact issue today. I brought my iPad to my university and couldn't connect through their web portal. I entered my credentials and it just sat there on the login screen. Pretty frustrating. Then to be sure I tried my iPhone and it connected first time like usual. Hopefully this gets fixed through a firmware update or something or else theirs gonna be some more angry people.

Ok Guys here's what I did to solve the problem. I don't know if it will work but I've duplicated it.

1. Turn off and on your Wi-fi
2. Forget the network you are trying to connect to (click right arrow etc)
3. Click Wi-Fi Networks on top left
4. Click the network you want to connect to
5. type in password
6. You'll get an error again
7. Click Dismiss
8. Click Join Again

You might have to go to step 2 if step 8 doesn't work but I never had to go through step 2 more than once.

I cannot watch a movie without my iPad losing the Wi-Fi connection.

I've tried all the solutions Apple Support recommends, and none of these have permanently fixed the problem! I really wonder if this issue is related to a limited number of users. Seems there are a LOT of us.

This is definitely an issue specific to the iPad. I am a mobile worker and I have Wifi at home, office, hotels etc and I cannot logon to any that require authentication. Of interest, this did work on day 1 of owning the laptop, but has not worked since. I have tried all the suggestions above, confirmed that my iPhone can logon where my iPad cant. When no authentication is required through the browser, my iPad conects with no issue.

Turn off Autofill in Safari and you will have better luck accessing WiFi services that require browser login authentication.

Hi, Have there been any developments on this front? I've been unable to connect to my university wifi, Starbucks, several cafes or my local library. Just as some of you, I get trapped on the log-in page or have my password rejected, although I can connect without issue from my iPhone and Macbook. I took my iPad into the genius bar and they said I'd just have to wait for an update.
The support article is of no use as the routers are not mine to adjust. Help?!

an address starting with 192 is a private and most (if not all home routers) use this as the first three characters. The next thre are typically 168. An address starting with 169 is a self-assigned address and is usually assigned by itself when a device can't get an address form the server.

I bought the Ipad with wifi for my trip to France. I could not connect to wifi anywhere during our travels. It acknowledged there was wifi but I couldn't put in the password. After a while it wouldn't recognize our cameras either to download our photos. Very disappointing and I'm a big fan of Apple. I hope they will fix this problem. Anyone figured this out yet?

If you get to the browser log-in page you do not have a WiFi problem. Turn off Autofill in Safari and you will have better luck accessing WiFi services that use browser login/acknowledgement pages. There is an interference with some WiFi services and the Safari Autofill feature (bringing up a save dialog). This information has been posted here before.

My neighbor was having issue where if the iPad went to sleep or he turns it off for a few minutes, he'd have to re-enter the WPS/WPK2 password to reconnect to his router. None of his Macs on WiFi had this issue.

It turned out that this Buffalo router was set to timeout on the password/encryption key after every 60 minutes. This was the router's default setting. I went into the router configuration page and switched the timeout to 0 (no timeout) and he no longer needs to enter the password every time.

It would seem that there's some difference in how the Macs and iPad handle getting on WiFi after a wakeup or powerup when it was previously connected.

I never had the issue on my iPad since my router was set for no timeout.

Thanks for replying, but I've read the information posted here, which is why I asked after developments. As the problems I'm experiencing with connecting to certain wifi spots are similar to 2 other posters here, I ventured to ask. I don't have autofill on, and I'm led to the same log page through safari and settings.

The autofill recommendation has fixed this problem for me, thanks a bunch!!
