Q: Macbook Pro connected via HDMI to TV

I have connected up to the TV, but all I get is the desktop screen no matter what I have going on on the Macbook Pro. Any ideas?
I bought the machine yesterday & is the new model with LED Backlit screen.

Macbook Pro 15", Mac OS X (10.6.3)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions

    Run System Preferences/Displays and check "Mirror" not "Extended Desktop" the you will see what's on the MacBook Pro on the TV or, drag a window across to the TV ...

    Michael, I got the video to show as you suggest. Have you managed to get sound through your TV and , if so, how? Gary

    The new MBP's include audio via the minidisplayport if you use the newer HDMI adapters. The older MBPs did not. Therefore you need the newer HDMI adapter which does also support audio and video out via HDMI.

    <http://www.drbott.com/press/100415.html>

    is the url for a new adapter by Dr Bott for mini display port to hdmi including audio. Check that one out.

    But_... it is displayport to HDMI including audio. You need the new to match the new displayport audio.

    There's two ways:

    1) Get another audio cable and feed from the MBP headphone (mini jack) socket to your TV composite audio input (usually twin phono) ((some TV's won't accept this combo however))
    2) Get this Adapter from Kanex and it will do video and audio > HDMI

    You need an Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that supports 5.1 channel audio. http://miniurl.com/35427

    I've connected my macbook pro to LG plasma tv via mini display port to HDMi and have a perfect picture. Connected from headphone port to audio connections on tv and have perfect sound. The problem is I can't get both of them at the same time. I change the tv to HDMi port for the picture and then change it to AV3 for the sound, but no way of getting the both together. Stuck now

    If you're going between the new MB Pro and HDMI, the Dr. Bott adapter above will work,or the correct Kanex adapter is the following:

    Kads, I think you need to connect with a single cable that carries both audio and video like the Kanex iAdapt® HDMI V2 - Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter w/ Audio Support, or the Dr. Bott 9180-MDHK - Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter II, both of which are linked above.

    wow, this is all great information. i've been looking into removing the audio connection from the headphone jack on the MBpro, but not sure my mini-port to HDMI connection carries audio. i'll have to check when i get home. does the adapter sold by Apple carry audio as well?...because that's the one i have. also, what is the difference between the two dr. bott adapters identified above? they vary greatly in price, but i'm not quite catching the difference between them just from reading the product description. thanks!
