Maybe not, iPad + 3g, can I use it as a cell phone??? It should be possible, but I have not found a single word on this topic....I am not planning to walk with this tile next to my ear, but with a bluetooth headset it should be possible at least to take a call

The iPad 3G is for data plans only.

The physical hardware may be present, but there is no capability for standard cellphone usage provided in the iPad at this time. If you want to make calls, you'll need to use a Voice-Over-IP solution such as Skype.

Not a silly question. I think the fact that it's 3g and has a micro sim may throw people off. The answer is no, however. It's not capable of working as a phone. The 3g is for data only. Below is info from the Apple website under tech specs

    "Wi-Fi + 3G model
    UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
    GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
    *Data only2*
    Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
    Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology"

I don't look at it like an oversized Touch.
The Touch doesn't have a full sized keyboard on screen. Unless you have baby or midget fingers it can still be a little tricky to touchtype.

The Touch requires a lot more scrolling of websites and larger images than a 3x5 to see the full image at a size that doesn't require squinting. True, really large websites it is better to use a full computer, but for most the 3G should suffice.

Calling the iPad an over sized touch is like calling a bathtub a swimming pool.

You can use BOTH the iPad WiFI and the iPad Wifi + 3G as a phone. Download Line2 from the app store and sign up for their $15 monthly plan. Works great on both.

Check the app store I believe I saw an app that used Bluetooth to your iPhone so you could make a call from your iPad as long as the iPad isn't farther than sixty feet away. I got text plus so I can send text messages from my iPad and it works great.

I am able to use my pad as a phone using a app called Tango.  This app lets me video chat, voice calls, and txt.  The down side is that the person your calling has to have the same app.  when you down load the app. it will go through your contacts and tell you who has tango.  There is also a invite.  So if a person you are trying to contact does not have tango you can send a invite for them and if they except you will be able to call.

In my circle of contact this has grown fairly quickly.  The app works accross the boad on devices and is farely good with 4g service and wifi.

I doubt that after almost three years this is still an issue for the original poster.
