Mine has started this too. CD's & DVD's with media on them run effortlessly, but when I load a blank, it sounds like it's trying to spin, but never actually does, then after a few attempts, it ejects the disk. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Yeah, sure! There is nothing on the disc to read, so of course it will spit it out. I'll bet my manly-hood it doesn't happen when you insert a blank disc after being prompted to do so by your burning software or by Finder when burning a burn folder disc. It is not a problem. Find something else to do.

This has now happened to me. I've inserted blank DVD-RW to burn pictures only to hear it spinning uselessly then chucking the blank DVD out again. I'm not using anything different than the cd/dvd drivers that came with my powerbook, nor am I doing anything different than I have done for years. I puzzled over this a bit trying different dvd types in case it was the brand at fault. Now on further looking it seems I have mistakenly downloaded an update for PowerPC. I notice I have one or two other software updates with Power PC tag. This is obviously my doing. What I would like to know is if that is the problem, if so, how can I rectify it. I'm a 'user' not a technical literate person of the hardware.

Or, do I know have to purchase a version of Toast?

This problem actually occurs whether the Finder or Toast prompts for a disk to burn or not. You owe me your manly-hood! What little there may be.

If someone else would be so kind as to help solve the problem I would grateful. I have cleaned the drive repeatedly, repaired disk permissions to no avail.
