Running Snow Leopard 10.6.2, w/ AirPortClientUpdate2009002 installed.

Internet sharing does not even start (menubar icon does not change)

Console reads this:

4/03/10 5:35:03 AM InternetSharing[8035] InternetSharing starting
4/03/10 5:35:03 AM InternetSharing[8035] Apple80211Set APPLE80211IOC_HOST_APMODE failed -3900
4/03/10 5:35:03 AM InternetSharing[8035] AirPortAccessPointModeSet: setAPMode failed
4/03/10 5:35:03 AM InternetSharing[8035] Internet Sharing shutting down
4/03/10 5:35:03 AM InternetSharing[8035] update_configuration failed
4/03/10 5:35:03 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.InternetSharing[8035]) Exited with exit code: 1
4/03/10 5:35:03 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.InternetSharing) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

From system profiler:

Interfaces:
en1:
Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87)
Firmware Version: Atheros 5416: 2.0.19.8

Fresh install. Have checked permissions. Have reset PRAM. Have inserted "<string>pci168c,87</string>" into info.pl (IO80211Family.kext)

Can someone please tell me why this doesn't work anymore? This worked perfectly in Leopard. I really didn't expect something that worked fine in Leopard to be totally broken in Snow Leopard.

Does anyone have any more ideas? I'm grinding my teeth here. =C

Is there anywhere online that I can report this directly to Apple?

    HI,

Is there anywhere online that I can report this directly to Apple?

From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Report Bugs to Apple.

Go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration and move the following files to the Trash.

    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

    com.apple.nat.plist

    com.apple.network.identification.plist

    Restart your Mac.

I have similar issue for MacbooPro C2Duo 2.33. This was working well a while under 10.6.2 and then stopped a 2-3 weeks ago (no system updates performed). Today I performed all tests above and did not work. I have since upgraded to 10.6.3 and still not fix (again reperforming steps above and restart)

    Console shows:
    May 12 12:56:36 115-189-236-133 InternetSharing[1286]: InternetSharing starting
    May 12 12:56:36 115-189-236-133 InternetSharing[1286]: Apple80211Set APPLE80211IOC_HOST_APMODE failed -3900

    May 12 12:56:36 115-189-236-133 InternetSharing[1286]: Internet Sharing shutting down

Same problem here! Why is there no help for us!?! I can't get the ethernet port to recognize anything being plugged in. I plug it directly to the router just for internet and it still shows as "cable unplugged". What am I doing wrong?!

For me this started after I updated with security update 2010-003. Everywhere I read it say to verify my disk (I did that and it said "appears OK"), install the "combo" update. So I download it from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017 but then when running it it says Installation Failed: An unknown installation error occurred. Contact the manufacturer for assistance.

I don't have apple care anymore. What do I do?!

ok, this is how I resolve this problem after 2 nights worth of R&D
    stop the internet sharing first
    create a network
and then start the internet sharing again

the little icon on the menu bar changed from a little computer to an upward arrow
then I managed to connected to internet with my iphone using internet sharing....
