Photos are not ending up in the same order on the iPad as they are in Aperture. Any way to sort them, or change the sorting behavior?

Apeture doesn't show as a supported program...I think you will need to use iPhoto to get the best results... not 100% sure though as I do not use Apeture... I do use iPhoto and my content sync to iPad perfectly.

I would love to know the answer to this as well. It's VERY annoying that the photos are completely out of order on the iPad.

    For example:
When I do a Smart Album from a vacation I include photos from everyone's cameras. They are sorted perfectly in chronological order in Aperture but on the iPad one persons photos show up first, then the next person, etc. So if you're looking at photos from the beginning you end up re-living the trip multiple times.

    Please help!

I just migrated everything over to Aperture 3 prior to getting the iPad. Now I am experiencing the exact problem as described above. I aggregate different cameras from each trip and the photos are sorted perfectly in Aperture but on the iPad as well as my Apple TV, they are sorted in a funny logic. So this may not be an iPad problem but an iTunes issue.

    Any ideas?

    Bump.

Same problem. Files sorted by date in Aperture, but when albums synced to iPad they are sorted by filename or something else. Very frustrating.

Anyone have any luck with this?

Ugly workaround - export album as jpegs to folder, jpeg names are set on export to be time/date, and sync from folders rather than Aperture. Takes up disk space, time consuming, and basically inelegant. But at least the images are sorted by date on the iPad.

Would be solved simply by having an option to sort by metadata on iPad photo settings (which at present are woefully inadequate). This would allow a sort by image name / date taken / whatever.

There are 3rd party apps that give you a full suite of tools to do this but you run their app to provide the slide show and not the Photo app.

Look up "Sort Shot" in the itunes app store. It is one of the more full features apps. It allows sorting by 5 criteria.

Hi, I am just about to press the 'buy' button and pre-order an iPad 3g. What I want to do is to be able to back-up my photos on the iPad as I am constantly worried I will lose CF cards etc. I currently use an external hard drive but want to be able to browse etc. I have no desire to edit the photo's or a macbook air would be my choice. When I upload my photos to my iMac (Apeture) from the CF cards they are all sorted in date order etc. From what I read here that order might be changed within the iPad and need correcting later. I am I correct or just misreading this thread?
    Thanks

Yes - when you sync your iPad with Aperture libraries directly, the iPad imposes its own sort order regardless of what order your albums are sorted by in Aperture. So if you've sorted your photos by date, they'll sort by some other criterion on the iPad. This, from what I've read, is not the case with iPhoto. Apparently it will use the same sort order as iPhoto's albums are using at the time of sync. Whether this is a bug in Aperture or the iPad or a missing feature is unknown. Although the features that exist on the iPad are incredibly polished, the feature set still leaves something to be desired.

And, FWIW, if you're using the iPad as a backup, you shouldn't sync photos through iTunes anyway, as iTunes will "optimize" (read: shrink) your photos. Use a decent 3rd party file transfer / viewer program to copy over images in their original resolution (GoodReader, etc). This may not be the case if you use the camera connection kit (I don't own it) - it may copy over the full resolution files.

Thanks for your help/suggestions. I think I might just wait and make sure what I want to achieve can be achieved rather than buy and then moan as some people seem to be doing!!
