DesktopsWhen those lights are on solid, they are indicating the Icons nearby. When they are blinking, they are indicating an error code that has nothing to do with the icons. It may be a fuser problem.
Can you run Classic? do you have Apple Printer Utility? -
Oct 28, 2009 11:17 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby Shooflymama,Thanks for your reply. No, I no longer have anything Classic or OS9.0+ on this machine, though I think I know what you are suggesting I try. I am thinking that the paper feed might be the problem, but don't have a way to test it. Odd that it worked one night and didn't the next day. I use Asante talk to connect and use the printer. Don't know what a fuser problem is. I appreciate your taking time to try to help me. -
Dec 18, 2009 5:47 AM in response to Shooflymamaby allowin, hello,
I don't think I can help you, I have a Laser Writer Select 360, I was using it with an old Mac, now I want to connect it to my G4 on the USB port. So I'm thinking od the USB parallel cable, as soon as the printer has a parallel port for PC users. I precise that I have installed a USB2 Pci card on the Mac.
I see that u use an asante talk, so, I wanna ask u if u ever tried the cable USB/parallel that works for PC users. this cable is cheaper and easy to find than the Asante solution.
thanks for your help -
Mar 19, 2010 7:44 PM in response to Shooflymamaby ilovemyoldmac,Hey! I'm having the exact same problem! Does anyone have an answer? I'm getting the idea via other websites that it may be a fuser problem, but what exactly do I look for and is this a DIY repair? I cannot afford to buy a new true postscript printer right now! I need my "old reliable" working! -
Jun 3, 2010 9:24 AM in response to Shooflymamaby David West,Have the same issue with 2 older LaserWriter NTRs. Pretty sure it's the fuser. The error that those two flashing yellow lights represent is that the printer is sensing that the fuser has not come up to the correct operating temperature. That can be the result of two issues.
1. The quartz fuser lamp has burned out or is old and does not heat properly.
2. The heat sensors are not correctly controlling the fuser temperature.
When a fuser is operating properly, those heat sensors cause the fuser lamp to turn on and off to maintain the correct temperature inside the fuser to melt the toner without burning the paper. Most likely it's a bad heat sensor within the fuser. The fusers are modular, and plug into the printer. You can replace them - if you can find a replacement. Parts for older LaserWriters are becoming harder & harder to find. Search the web, or check with an independent Apple repair shop. -
Jun 3, 2010 10:16 PM in response to Shooflymamaby diaweimer,Does anyone know where I can find a Laserwriter 8 driver for the Laserwriter 360 Select to connect to the G4. I mistakenly deleted the driver 2 years ago, but the printer still runs, but since no driver won't print. I have looked everywhere. It is connected to the Asante "little beige box" (I have forgotten what it is called.) where the printer cord connects on one side and the other side is an ethernet cord to the computer. But no printer driver. Use to sit on the desktop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
