Apr 18, 2010 11:29 PM in response to XPavby Dann1burk,I am just going to assume you have restarted the device at least once because that would be my first suggestion. What you might want to try is back up all of your data, if you can, and then restore the unit. You know, plug it in and click restore in iTunes or enter DFU moe by powering the device off completely and simultaneously holding the home button while plugging in the connector to the computer. **make sure to hold the home button until you see the restore logo come up on the screen**
That should take care of the software issue for you, and relatively painlessly. -
May 1, 2010 12:25 PM in response to XPavby PBRAYIU,Same thing's happening to me. I went ahead and did a restore. No luck. Any other ideas out there? Thanks. -
Jun 7, 2010 7:03 AM in response to XPavby wartooth,I had this same problem. I think it is because the iPad isn't registered (you have to be online when you first connected the iPad otherwise you probably skipped it like me).
I just did the following which worked:
unticked "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected"
ejected the iPad
quit iTunes
disconnected and reconnected iPad
restarted iTunes
I got back to the "Register this iPad"
Once registered it should act normal when connecting it again. -

Mar 11, 2011 8:56 PM in response to wartoothby mreding,I hope that the original person notates this as solved... because it is.
Simply follow wartooth's advice above.
Just in case it ever gets erased... do the following.
Before following the below... please make sure you're connected to the internet!
1) While the iPad is connected to your computer with iTunes open, on the Summary tab uncheck the box that says "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected."
2) Eject (using the eject button) the iPad (don't disconnect the cord yet).
3) Quit iTunes.
4) Disconnect the cord now and reconnect.
5) iTunes MAY restart at this point. If it doesn't, go ahead and start iTunes.
When it asks, click Continue and follow the registration instructions.
I don't know why this happened to my iPad (2). I just purchased it at an Apple store and had personal set up (just so I could go ahead and use it). For some reason I was never offered the opportunity to register in-store. This, however, has fixed the problem! Hope it helps others. -

Sep 15, 2015 2:21 AM in response to JKhalby Studio_two,Same for me, all I have within iTunes 12.2 is "Welcome to you new iPad". It's an iPad2 that was working perfectly well last week (I've had it from new), but now not recognised. I just re-registered the device, but that had no effect.
Any other thoughts would be most welcome.

Sep 15, 2015 2:31 AM in response to Studio_twoby Studio_two,Well, as an update to my last post, I took a gamble and chose "Setup new iPad", and that was basically it. Everything was there as before, and that seems to have solved the issue. I'm mystified, as I expected it to wipe the device and start anew.
