When I hit delete, I get a box saying "Unable to move message. The message could not be moved to mailbox trash"

any ideas?

Are you connected to 3G or Wifi? You need an internet connection.

I have the exact same thing. Move, delete, both don't work with one specific message. This specific message is removed on the underlying Exchange server. Is there some kind of cleanup command for Mail?

I was able to get the folder empty again. This specific message was available in another folder (my "Archive") and I used a PC to move it from there back to the folder it got "stuck" on the iPad. PC and iPad only noticed one message in this folder now and I then moved the iten on the iPad to "Archive" again.

    1) Go to advanced settings for your mail account
    2) uncheck "trash on iPad"
    3) check "trash on server" look near bottom

If "trash on iPad" is checked, trashed mail stays on the iPad which essential means you keep seeing it in your emails.

This is what I did to fix this exact problemo.

Thank you so much. I was having the same exact problem and could not solve it. Your "advanced" suggestion solved it immediately. Freedeagle

Are you talking about Advanced on the Mac vs the iPad? Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't see anything about my iPad on my Mac. And I can't find Advanced on my iPad. Help appreciated!

Deleting the Exchange account and recreating it on the iPad did the trick for me. May not be desired but it removed the pesky message.

What if the checkmark will not uncheck?

You have to make another selection for it to uncheck on the ipad.  In this case, you would select "deleted messages" on the server list below it.

Thanks for your clear, concise directions on how to delete email from iPad. Every message I deleted since 2010 wound up in the email file titled 'Important'.  So I deleted all of them, over 1,000, only to find they had all migrated to the Inbox.  That is when I read your instructions about going to Advanced, etc.  I only wish I knew how to send more than one at a time to Trash.

    Thank you for your help.

    To delete multiple emails:

in Mail click the "Edit" button, atthe top of incoming mail column

tap those emails you wish to delete to select them; a checkbox will become checked

Once you have selected all thsoe to delete, click "DELETE" (red button at bottom)

    Poof! Deleted

That's still very time consuming.  Apple has a "Delete All" feature in both Messages and Voicemail, when are they going to add this feature to Mail?!
