Same, here, that's been my experience. But the thing about "when available" makes me think things might be different for this one. I guess we'll know more when we get closer to the 15th!

Worse case, it is delivered a day or two or a few days later, or maybe a week later. If so, I'm sure I'll find a way to survive, and bypass what will surely be lines and a madhouse at the local Apple stores and AT&T corporate stores.

I am sure they use the words "when available" to help cover their butts since if they say a specific date and people don't get it that day they would have a lot of irate people calling.

I have an iPhone on an individual plan and I have a family member who has an iPhone on a completely different plan. I want to preorder a new iPhone for both of us, but also want to put both of us on a single "Family Plan". Does anyone know if this is something that can be done as part of the online preordering process? Thanks.

*I thought when you pre-order on the 15th, you PICK IT UP at the apple store on the 24th..... Can someone clarify this please? Thanks.*

*No. When pre-ordering online, the iPhone is shipped to your door.*

oh, ok thanks Allen!... i'm scared I won't get it on the 24th bc of the "when availbale" On the apple site, it also says starting June 15 you can reserve your iPhone 4 for pickup at an Apple retail store... I think that would be my best bet, knowing i will have the phone on the actual 24th. I've never pre-ordered.. ive always bought my iphones in the apple stores.. doing the lines etc.. if it's certain it'll be delivered on the 24th then i'll take the day off from work and wait for my iphone to be shipped =)

    You're welcome.

Apple is protecting themselves with the "when available" included since they don't know how many pre-orders will be placed and there may be a limit for the number that can be delivered on the 24th with a pre-order placed on the 15th. There is no certainty with this - no certainty your pre-order will be delivered on the 24th, but once your order ships, you will be provided shipping information including a tracking number for your order with the shipping carrier along with an estimated delivery date.

Sounds like there will be an option with pre-ordering - having the iPhone shipped to your door or having it delivered to a local Apple store reserved in your name if this is preferred instead.

I have a question, I have two lines on my account and both of them are iPhones. What I want to know is, how can I pre-order two I phones? Do I just have to pre-order one at a time?

From what I've read, only one order per line/number and if so, you will need to place a separate order for each line/number.

Hi, my fiance and I both have iPhone 3GS's, but we're on separate plans right now (we'll probably be switching to a family plan soon). She's currently eligible for an upgrade but I'm not. I'd like to pre-order the iPhone 4 under her account, but I'd be the one using the phone (she's okay with this).

Are there any issues with pre-ordering using her number/account, then activating it in iTunes (or by taking it to an AT&T store) and using it with my phone number?

    Thanks!

So how exactly does the activation work when you do it at home? Is there a disk that you have to put in? Or does iTunes recognize that the iPhone needs to be activated and just does it automatically? Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Allan, thank you for the info. I had always purchased my iPhones directly from the apple store. I was worried that once I pre-ordered it would be activated and I would be without a phone for a week. Do you know, however if, when I plug into iTunes, will it give me the option to keep my current plan that I've had for 6 years now, or will i be forced to change. At the Apple store and AT&T stores I was always to keep my current plan so i assume it would be the same. Thanks for your help.

    Respectfully,

    JC
