I just discovered that iCal wants to use Mail.app to send the alerts. However, I don't use Mail.app since it doesn't work the way I want my email client to work; I use Thunderbird.

How can I get iCal to use Thunderbird instead of Mail.app? I looked in iCal>Preferences but nothing there.

    romad,

Look in Mail>Preferences...>General>Default email reader: Choose Thunderbird.

    romad,

Quit iCal, and delete the com.apple.iCal.plist file.
That's been set for years now. Had no effect with iCal.

Next reset the option in Mail, and log out/in or restart. Open iCal and test.

    romad,
or do I have to restart after each change step?

I would not be too concerned about the sequence, but if the first attempt is unsuccessful try another sequence.

A restart may not be required. Logging out/in of the user account should be part of the process.
