Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    I hate Boot Camp 3.1 and that is why I am uninstalling it on the Windows side of the partition. I cannot get the graphics card to work and the printer will not install. I will rely on getting updates from the hardware manufacturer.

    I'll be trying it on shortly, hope that resolves my right-click disappearing issue!

    Vladimir,

    First, I'm a big fan of your work: Power Plan REALLY optimized my Windows-on-Macbook experience! Now, regarding the trackpad driver, here's my small review & some suggestions. Pointer speed/accel now looks very good, I don't think OS X offering is any better. Scrolling is ASTONISHINGLY improved. OS X-like. Period. Prevention of accidental drag and drop works, either. However, I don't see the pinch functionality or three finger gestures, as well as advanced settings for customization of the existing features. Also, why wouldn't you consider automatic installation of the driver? Manual procedure is boring And I think not all the people are "tappers", some use corner-click even in OS X... And no way to disable tap-to-click in the Trackpad++ driver? And, finally, there MUST be a feature called "disable trackpad while typing"... But, anyways, thanks so lot for your AMAZING work! Guess Apple should start to worry, as Windows on Macbook Pro becomes more and more usable...

    K.R.,
    Fred

    From here the driver works very well. thx.
    Suggestion: pls add the option of manual adjusting of finger pressure level.
    also, could the scroll speed and acceleration be controlled individually, not through the set of fixed presets? I'd prefer to set up such things manually (I know, the presets are good. but anyways, I'd love to access the underlying settings)

    I am very interested, but would need the ability to left click in the lower-left corner, and right click in the lower-right corner. I am not a tapper, but instead a clicker. I have the new 17" i7. The website for the developer of this driver states:

    'hardware' corner-clicks are all there

    Do those hardware clicks work in the new 17" i7, even though the new model is not listed as being supported yet?

    Thanks, and keep up the good work.

    Thank You for the feedback.

    I am glad to announce that an update is being developed now (it will arrive in June).
    This update has already reached the internal BETA-testing phase.

    Updated Trackpad++ software includes:

    1. Option to disable accidental input when typing:
    Highly-anticipated option (in fact, this has been the most popular feature request from the users).
    At your choice, either accidental left-click actions or entire trackpad input can be ignored while you type.
    This turns trackpad into an extra palm rest surface without the risk to displace the caret.

    2. Option to disable tap-to-click functionality:
    For people who does not use tapping. Still, I personally would not recommend to disable tap-to-click, because Trackpad++ driver is not optimized for 'hardware' corner clicks (although they are available and fully-functional).

    3. Support of Mid-2010 Macbook Pro line:
    A new Macbook Pro is not officially supported right now, because during the initial development of Trackpad++ driver these notebooks were not on the market yet.

    Wow, just wow! Today I installed the update, and ignore accidental input thing works so good that I can totally forget about trackpad as I type. Absolutely the winner feature. Thanks a ton!

    "Trackpad ++" solved all my loss of right click issues in Win 7 and also improved the scroll feature on my early 08 Macbook Pro. I also had freezes in Mac OS on my trackpad which were coincidentally fixed with the new (June 2010) Mac OS update. I am happy as a clam living outside of the Gulf of Mexico! Thank You V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r. This driver is certainly worth a donation. It certainly fixed the problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed regarding the Mac update but so far it seems to have cured a problem I have had since I purchased in Feb 08. The freezing was very intermittent and could be cured by putting the computer to sleep as would the right click problem in Win 7.

    When you went to http://trackpad.powerplan7.com did you see at the bottom of the page where it said How to Install and did you click on that and read what it said there.

    I tried this driver and I got:

    Program Compatibility Assistant

    Windows requires a digitally signed driver

    A recently installed program tried to install an unsigned driver. This version of Windows requires all drivers to have a valid digital signature. The driver is unavailable and the program that uses this driver might not work correctly.

    Uninstall the program or device that uses this driver and check the publisher's support website to get a digitally signed driver.

    Driver: Mouse Filter Driver
    Service: Apple Multitouch Trackpad [Driver:
    Trackpad++]
    Publisher. Windows (R) Win 7 DDK provider
    Location: C:\win...\trackpadplus_plusx64.sys

    If the driver is unavailable then how do I use it.

    Then it told me that I had to restart before I could use it. I restarted and now I see a yellow mark next to it in device manager and now the trackpad does not work at all. If my wireless mouse does not have a good battery in it then the amount of working mouse I have is NONE.

    If the driver is unavailable then how do I use it. I only want to disable it when I am using an external mouse and use the trackpad while the battery for the external is charging not disable the trackpad permanently.
