I know this community represents a very small amount of ipad users but I can't shake the fact that I've seen multiple posts about the screen having artifacts in it, and gray screens or other posts by other users with problematic ipads. So should I be concerned and maybe wait before buying?

I'd check it out in the store and if it's good, you are jammin'.

If it's bad, tell them you want a different one.

    Hi-

I have one, and can say nothing but good about it.
Crisp text, colorful graphics, zero pixel defects, fast, fluid operation, seamless connections wireless or wired.

Apple Discussions is a lot like a hospital emergency room.
Spend all your time there, and you think everyone is sick and injured.

Granted, there are issues with any product, but they are no where near the majority, and these individual cases are quickly remedied by Apple.

Also, there are those that will never be satisfied with anything, so vilification is also to be encountered here.

Out of all the ipads what do you guess the failure rate is.

    What failure?

Try this, with a sample of 142 users:

Nice title for a sample of 142 of 2 million+......

What do you think is the ratio of them tearing up.

    Hi,

Out of the 30+ iPads that I personally know about, including the two that I have of my own, I have seen no failures, nor heard of any.

They have met all of my expectations, and more. I user mine for work, and play, but mostly for work, like my iPhone. It is the best personal manager I have put together so far, and I never want to be without it. It has replaced most of what I need a notebook computer for.

    Cheers,
    M.

I think, like the iPhone, the issues that are real are about 30% or less of the total reported issues.
Yes, I am saying that the user bias or user fault is to blame for most of the reported issues.

It's too early for ratios and such.
If you want one, buy it.
It is a fantastic, magical device.

Based on my personal experience, it's non-existant. I have 2 and used a 3rd. All funcioned fine except for one had wifi issues early on. It's OK now.

Based on these forums, where people bring their problems and concerns & questions, it's really low failure. There are over 2 million out there and relatively few posts about troubles like your OP.

Not sure you need to be overly concerned, due to the great warranty on the ipad.

Agree wholeheartedly with japamac. I have one and love everything about it. No issues. That's not to say some defects aren't out there but as with many things in life, we often don't hear from those happy or satisfied with products or services, ya know? Life is short, grab one and enjoy. If any problem then exercise your return/warranty rights. Cheers.
