I thought that one of the great things about the new iBooks app was that it would be able to read ePub files.
I've gone to the Project Gutenberg web page and tried to download some ePub files but it says that Safari can't download that filetype...
So, does it mean that I have to download it into my computer FIRST and then transfer to iBooks???

That sounds bad, specially as I could transfer ePub documents directly from Safari into Stanza...

Yes, they need to go via iTunes. It's odd that iBooks 1.1 will accept PDFs via the "Open with" mechanism but not epubs. Hopefully that will come in a future update; it would be quite useful.

Note that the iBookstore has a lot of Project Gutenberg books so you may just be able to download them from there for free.

A good chunk of the Gutenberg stuff is already in iBooks and you just need to search the iBooks store for what you want. There is no need to try to download directly from the Gutenberg website.

I did a search in iBooks and found a whole bunch of PG Wodehouse books.
