Apple is focusing all production power on the BLK models right now as the BLK model is way more popular than white iphones. They simply don't have the manpower to make both colors yet satisfy both group of buyers on launch day.
2. There's no way that Bestbuy will have white ones ahead of APPLE, it's APPLE we are talking about, right?
3. White iphone buyers, just be patient, you will have the iphone. If you really can't wait, get a BLK one.15" Unibody MBP 2.66 GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.7)
Currently Being ModeratedJun 22, 2010 12:08 AM (in response to kcajie)I was told by an apple rep over the phone that the white iphone 4 won't be available until July 14th. But he also stated to check online periodically for preorders of it, which he stated will be after launch date. So don't stand in line for a white iphone because it wont be available.Macbook pro 2, Mac OS X (10.4.10), standard

Currently Being ModeratedJun 22, 2010 11:04 AM (in response to kcajie)For those thinking about going to the stores on Thursday for white iPhones, I don’t think you should waste your time. Let’s look at the facts:
- Both the Apple and AT&T websites have clearly stated since the pre-order information went on their sites that the white iPhone was not available for pre-order to ship or in-store pick-up. Fairly clear to me!
- Best Buy has now posted on their site that they will have NO white iPhones due to manufacturing delays. That is really clear also. Manufacturing delays would prevent ALL retailers who sell the iPhone, not just Best Buy. View the notice here:
- Notices from AT&T about the delay of the white iPhone have said that the white iPhone would not be available until late summer.
- Knowing that the white iPhone was unavailable for pre-order, having confirmation from Best Buy that there is a manufacturing delay AND AT&T has said ‘late summer’ for iPhone availability -- that would make me think the white version will not be available until August or September.
Someone mentioned in another forum post that they thought the white iPhone would not be made available until at least 30 days after the first day the iPhone are sold so that there are not a lot of returns with people trying to exchange to get another color. This makes sense!
How many people in these forums have you heard say “I will settle for a black one but I really wanted a white one.” If Apple makes the white one available two weeks from now, there would be a long line at retailers trying to do a return and exchange. I don’t think they would do that since they are doing good just to meet current demand.
My prediction is that the earliest we will see a white iPhone will be July 25. That will be 30 days after the first batch of iPhones are sold and would keep anyone who purchased a black one from returning it for a white one.
Since the Apple site is now displaying a next ship date of July 14 if you pre-order a black one now, I’m thinking we will not see a white iPhone until 30 days after July 14. That would be August 15 which aligns with all the other facts we have about the white iPhone not being available until late summer.
I also want a white iPhone; however, we need to look at the facts. There will be no white iPhones this week and we have clear signs to indicate that. I will be sleeping comfortably Thursday morning until I need to go to work instead of wishfully wasting my time in a line for a phone that has not been made available yet and I have no pre-order for. And, I’m not getting a black one if it is not the one I want. For others who want a white iPhone, I recommend this same strategy and to consider the facts.iPod, iPhone, iPad, PowerBook
Currently Being ModeratedJun 22, 2010 11:07 AM (in response to carolinachris)You're forgetting one of the most evident pieces of information in my opinion.. Apple never said white would be unavailable at launch nor did they confirm a delay at WWDC. I think Steve worded his launch details very specifically to essentially say there will be a small handful of whites at launch, but then once those go it will be temporarily unavailable till more are manufactured. I believe he would have said 'white model available later this summer' if that was the case.. and if not.. then Apple has royally F'ed up this launch.MacBook 2.2 dual-core, 2gb ram, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Currently Being ModeratedJun 22, 2010 11:28 AM (in response to mdcosta911)Great point mdcosta911. I’m thinking Apple didn’t know there would be a delay of the white one at the launch and that the manufacturing delay of the white one has transpired since WWDC.iPod, iPhone, iPad, PowerBook
Currently Being ModeratedJun 22, 2010 11:42 AM (in response to carolinachris)When I just called my local Apple store the guy said the white iphones won't be available till mid-summer. So probably mid July or end of July. But who knows maybe they do actually have a limited number of white iphones available on launch day and in limited stores, just not every store.
Bummer, looks like I'll be waiting. I really don't want to settle for black. So I guess I'll just have to be patient.Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Currently Being ModeratedJun 22, 2010 2:46 PM (in response to kcajie)I'm trying to decide if I should wait for a white iPhone 4, get a white 3GS or black iPhone 4.
I'm with Sprint right now. My contract is up on the 1st of July. I need to switch to either AT&T or Verizon. Sprint has admitted that their coverage is very bad in my area. I find frequently that I have no signal. I want to make the switch now, b/c I'm planning my wedding, moving, going back to school, looking for a job in the new city I'm moving to, etc. etc. etc. I need to be with a carrier that actually has good coverage in my area.
Waiting for a white iPhone might not be an option for me.
Do you guys think I should get a white iPhone 3GS or a black iPhone 4? Are all of the features of OS4 available on the 16 GB 3GS? I just did the update on my 8 GB iPod Touch only to find that home screen backgrounds and multitasking are not supported on it.iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 3:21 PM (in response to kcajie)I just got back from visiting my local Best Buy (Salt Lake City, Utah) and here’s what I found out. Not only will the white model NOT be available, but they will also have ZERO units available to walk ins. In addition, there will be a number of unlucky people who will have their pre-orders refunded as they are not receiving enough units to cover all the pre-sales they took! They will however be opening up what they are calling a “pre-sale” from 10:00am to 11:00am for customers. You basically purchase a $50.00 gift card and this serves as a reservation for when they receive the phones, whenever that may be.
I’ve spent the week (yes the whole seek) researching the most strategic location to buy my phone. After digging and digging I settled on Spring Mobile, a licensed dealer who had planned to have the unit (black) available in limited quantities to walk ins. After calling around to a half dozen of their locations today I was notified by ALL stores that they would also have ZERO units available to walk ins due to a lack of supply.
Now for the Apple Store. I made every effort possible to avoid the Apple Store as it’s known for having monstrous lines and people who camp out over night and such. I just got off the phone with my local store and in usual Apple style they can neither confirm nor deny anything. Very annoying. She did say that they will have some stock on hand (black) for walk ins but would not give me any numbers. She wouldn’t be specific about the white but after pushing her long enough she basically spilled it that there would be no white ones. They already have over 50 people camping and she said the line is growing immensely and rapidly.
I’ve read this entire thread as well as many others and done quite a bit of research including talking to two different representatives at Apple and here’s what it boils down to; The white was is out. It is completely unavailable at this time, period. You can get one as soon as mid to late July, possibly later. The black one will only be available at the Apple store (at least here in SLC) for walk ins and more than likely in very limited quantities. Too risky to warrant a camp out. And there are going to be lots of unhappy people who pre-ordered who will NOT be getting their phones.
It’s a pretty ugly situation. Me? I want a white one. And I want to peacefully walk in to my local retailer and pick it up in a relaxed and civilized manner. So I’m waiting.Power Mac
