IPhone 4 arrived this morning. The screen has a manufacturing defect in it. It looks like whatever layer get's put down over the backlight is defective. I have dozens of "Bright spots" all over the screen. When I called Apple, the guy told me I am the first defect call they had received. Oh boy, lucky me.
The phone is usable but I can't imagine what it will be like to try and get a service replacement while everybody else is just waiting to get a retail one. Hopefully they reserve part of the new stock for service replacements.
Anybody else get a defective one???
so what is apple saying their going to do about it?wow i know this has messed your day up man!iMac,Macbook Unibody 13",iPhone 3GS, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 7:48 AM (in response to Sg42)Bummer......this is why I wanted to go through the hassle of waiting in line at the Apple store to get mine and have them activate it. If there's a defect, they'd have to give me a different phone. I hope you can easily get yours replaced......Asus Laptop, n/a

I would post a pic but don't think I can on the apple site. Maybe I can link to my mobileme pics.MacBook Pro, IMac, Mac Mini, etc., Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 7:59 AM (in response to Sg42)Just to make sure the obvious is covered, you removed the protective film from the screen, right?Lots of stuff, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 8:02 AM (in response to fjfjfjfjfjfjdksllair)I had a tilted 3GS screen last year in the mail, they sent me a new one with 1 day shipping, while they were sending it, they let me use the defected 3GS, but if I didn't return it they will charge me. When it came in, it was still defected, and they offered me a $50 universal dock for free!!Macbook Pro
Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 8:38 AM (in response to Sg42)Mine is defective also
Not bright spots but I've got 2 orange/brownish spots one at the top right and one at the bottom right.
Wonder if I should try getting it replaced at the Apple store or if that's impossible since it's going on sale officially tomorrow and I'm sure they'll run out.
Maybe I can live with it like this for a couple months and then get it replaced.iPhone 4 32GB, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 8:43 AM (in response to elitemrp)Call Apple support. I'm sure they withhold a stock to cover such situations and will replace yours very quickly -- perhaps letting you keep this one to use in the meantime. Apple support has been very responsive for me, and this week starting tomorrow will not the the best to be visiting Apple stores!

Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 8:49 AM (in response to Sg42)Sorry to hear this dude.. hey at least you definitely know you have 14-30 days to refund for a new fresh one.. Apple certainly has to help you out and extend their refund policies to a reliable date for you to get a new phone at the store. They should be pretty cooperative about this kind of stuff..MacBook 2.2 dual-core, 2gb ram, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 11:12 AM (in response to elitemrp)I spoke with a tech support rep who then connected me to a senior adviser since she wasn't sure what to do since it's so new.
The sr. adviser told me since it officially isn't out until tomorrow their computers wouldn't let him create a repair order so I have to call back tomorrow.
Luckily it's not too bad so I can live with it for now I just hope it doesn't get worse.
I also noticed its not just 2 blobs in each corner, the top actually has issues all across which I can easily see with an all white image on screen.
Here's a photo of the lower right corner:
Sorry it's really hard to see in the photo even though I increased the contrast and lowered the brightness a bit. It almost looks like lens flare but it's that blob in the right corner.
I'm curious if this orange/burnt color blobs is the same as the "bright spots" Sg42 is talking about?Intel Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.5.1)
Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 1:27 PM (in response to Sg42)I have a strip of yellow on mine too. It's hardly noticeable, unless the screen is flooded with white. But still, a defect is a defect, and this *****. How should I go about dealing with this?Black iPhone 4 32gb, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedJun 23, 2010 1:57 PM (in response to nusilver)Yeah, just activated my phone, I've got it too. All along the bottom, concentrated mostly in the corners. I wonder how many phones are affected?
It's hard to notice but I'll probably get it replaced. Why go to all the trouble of making an amazing screen only to have discolorations on it?
Dang..MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz 15", Mac OS X (10.6.3), iPhone 2G, iPad WiFi + 3G, Windows 7 laptop and desktop, Linux server
