Okay I think I have figured out my issue and oddly it may help others even though this seems like it's time waster it helped and fixed alot of the crap that was happening. After you update to OS4 you are going to have an issue no matter what something small or big it's going going to happen. What I did was completely erase all the data on the itouch. Took about 2 hours so I let it do it's thing while I slept. But once I woke up got my coffee and decided to battle the IOS4 beast and reconnected to my computer it calibrated itself properly and so far I've seen no real issues as of yet. My music and videos show up and work just like they did before the update. No lagging, echos or random direction changes. And my pics show up properly after it optimized them for 4.0. So my main suggest for everyone is to erase the data on the Itouch especially the 2nd Gens. I think Data from 3.X.X is screwing with 4.0 and causing conflicts between the software updates.

Just upgraded to OS4 and lost all my **** music. *** do I do now? I have music on my ipod from multiple systems. Is there a way to get it back? All my apps were restored but shouldn't my songs have been saved?

perhaps a class action lawsuit is in order...by upgrading to 4 my itouch is
useless with the constant fluctuation of
wifi , programs freezing or simply not working.
Seems unreasonable to me when they say it will
    be wonderful.

As far as I know with Itunes if you are hooking it up to multiple libraries it's only going to recognize the main library that the itouch is linked to. I know you can grab things from a friend's library and play it on your Itouch but it wont add it to your own at least mine would never let me. I know there are programs out there that will let you "rip" music, videos and pics from your itouch and then add them to yours but as far as Itunes goes it doesn't allow for it but I could be wrong. So you if you didn't have it backed up by Itunes before upgrading you may have to go back to the other libraries and get them or download them again.

But as a safety note make sure that the music is actually lost my problem was Itune recognized that I had music on my itouch but my itouch didn't see it on it's memory so wouldn't play it until I erased the data (OS4 Factory Reset)and then put my back up back on to it. I know it seems like a waste of time and more frustration but erasing the data on the Itouchs seems like the best route in clearing up the software conflicts. But I'd rather spend 2 hours on waiting for the reset than spending another 300-400$ on a new Itouch. lol just saying...

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch that has been upgraded to iOS 4. My iPod Touch will no longer sync via the Apple Universal Dock and no longer works when connected to my car radio via the dock connector. Also, my new iPhone 4 also will not sync via the Apple Universal Dock or work with my car radio.

Trust a geek not to give up. I decided to get to the bottom of the "iOS device does not work with the Apple Universal Dock" problem. I noticed that the iPhone 4 and iPad came with slightly different USB-Dock adapter cables. I wondered if that might be the issue. My Apple Universal Dock was connected to my Mac via the original dock adapter cables which are slightly larger. I connected the newer cables between the Mac and the Apple Universal Dock and .... voila! Both the iPod Touch with iOS 4 and the iPhone can now connect via the Apple Universal Dock. Apple changed something in the way the adapter cables function.

Of course I still have the problem with the car head unit dock adapter ... The vendor has posted a firmware update.. I'll have to call Best Buy ( uughh! ) and find out if they'll do the update for me. The were the vendor authorized installer.

Wow, after seeing all of the problems people are having, I figured I'd post what worked for me:

I did a complete restore without backing up, and then set it up as a new iPod. I then readded all my apps and music, etc.

I know that a lot of y'all can't do this, but it worked perfectly for me... my iPod runs faster than on 3.1.3 and the wi-fi is great. The battery life is a little bit shorter now, but I guess that's to be expected with more running in the background and with the wi-fi being on even when the iPod is asleep.

Here are my specs for those interested:

MB model 2nd generation iPod touch, 16GB
    iTunes 9.2
    iOS 4 public release
    iBook G4, 800mhz
    Leopard (Unsupported processor, I know)

    Hope this helps someone!
