I too have a Landrover Discovery LR3 HSE with all the bells and whistles on it including the Professional SatNav with Bluetooth PTI integration and voice recognition.

I also have a new IPhone 3Gs 32gb (Model MC133B) with Firmware 3.01(7A400) and it has terrible echo when using the phone via bluetooth. In fact my wife refuses to talk to me when I'm in the car.

This must be a Iphone issue as i've owned the car for almost 4 years and paired and used at least 4 models of Sony Ericsson and a few Nokia models with the car with zero issues.
Now with the Iphone, I get a slightly 'choppy' conversion and the person I'm talking too gets horrendous echo, hearing there own voice coming back after a split second. It's dreadful and now I'm hardly using the phone in the car!

One thought I was wondering is, I wonder if the 3g/3gs firmware is not turning off the iphones micrphone when using a 'handsfree' system and therefore causing feedback or odd duplex results caused by the Car system mic being closer to you than the Iphones, but both of them passing the sound back to the person on the other end.

Come on Apple, sort it out!

I have an Infiniti M45 and have a terrible echo problem with my 3GS running 3.0.1. I am clear from the car, but the other caller hears himself, delayed by 1/2 a second or so, which is very disorienting. It sounds like Apple went backwards from the 3G running 2.2.

Unfortunately, I am having this problem too. I am using a Kenwood DNX 6400. I have no problems with other phones, but with the iPhone 3GS, the echo makes it unusable. This is on 3.0. Apple, help???

I am having the same issue with my 2007 Land Rover LR3. My question is, is it simply that the microphone on the iPhone itself is still on? I would imagine that would cause a rather bad echo...Any ideas if this is fixed in 3.1.2?

I have just bought a new iphone and it is running 3.1.2 synced it with my car and my hubby is complaining about the horrid echo. I have had the bluetooth in my car which in the past has been synced with numerous other phones and have never had this problem. It would appear to be the phone. So sad, as I was so excited about the phone and this is a big draw back as I use my phone a lot in the car.... Apple please fix it!!

I just got my Alpine IXA-W407 for my car which has bluetooth included with an echo cancelling feature. When using my iphone with the hands-free bluetooth the person on the other end gets a horrible echo of their voice. From reading this thread I know I am not the only one.

    Apple, please fix this!!!!!

I have the exact same issue with my iPhone 3GS and my Range Rover Sport, and my girlfriend has the issue with her 3G and her Land Rover LR3. The echo that callers hear is terrible and has caused us both to go back to using our iPhones while driving without a hands free device (which is illegal in CA!).

This is my first post to the apple discussion boards (hi!) but I'm hoping if we get enough people discussing this issue Apple will fix this problem.

I have exactly the same problem - i rang my phone provider (O2) and they suggested restoring the product and then returning it to the apple store for replacement if not fixed. Neither of these have fixed the issue.

I have a 2006 Range Rover HSE and an 8GB Black iPhone 3G and I don't hear any echo in the car when I am on a call but the person I am talking to says there is a terrible echo and asks me to take them off of bluetooth because it us unbearable. This needs to be fixed immediately! What is the point of bluetooth and the safety of handsfree calling if your phone can't use it effectively. We need a patch NOW!

What is the point of bluetooth and the safety of handsfree

I wouldn't worry about it, ANY use of a mobile phone in a car will soon be banned anyway.

"States should ban drivers from using hand-held _and hands-free_ cell phones, and businesses should prohibit employees from using cell phones while driving on the job, the congressionally chartered National Safety Council says,"

I have a 55 plate Volvo V70 with the Volvo Bluetooth handsfree kit. I cannot pair the Iphone 3GS at all. It recognises the VOLVO on the Iphone, but continually fails to pair. Any Ideas?

I have a 3G and recently purchased an Alpine KCE-BT400 bluetooth handsfree device and am getting a HORRIBLE echo. Ticks off everyone that I talk to and renders the device completely useless. Have tried all the volume related "fixes" turing off the 3G network setting...everything. Still echoes. Apple says call Alpine, Alpine says call Apple who has said it's AT&T. Ridiculously frustrating.

I'll add mine. Same problems, callers complain of an echo and can't even have a conversation. Mine's on an aftermarket JVC. Don't suppose there's much point in listing the model since this thread is years old and pages long.

and the problem...IS STILL THERE!! I was excited that the new phone was to have an additional microphone for noise cancelation. THought that even though Apple never admitted anything about the echo problem they took steps to fix it. On one hand, they did in that it doesn't echo anymore if your hand is cupped over the speaker, but it still echos on my handsfree device in my car...ridiculous.
