no sim problem

I activated my Iphone4 and it said no sim found. I took the sim out put it back in and the phone worked. Five minutes later said no sim. Took it to the AT&T store and had a new sim put in. The phone worked for a few minutes then went back to no sim. Spent a few hours on home phone with apple. Tried reset but still happening. No answers from apple. Has anyone else had this happen?

Right latest update. My apple bug report got a response. I was told to install the IPCU utility, plugin my phone and record the log when the "No Sim Installed" message came up. After about 1 hour of being plugged in I got it. I also then switched it into/out of airplane mode, and the signal came back. All of this was captured in the log file which I've sent back.

Let you know when I hear more. Has anyone had theirs replaced and got the same issue?

Started getting NO SIM today after days of no problems. First day I used the phone in Manhattan and not in my near-home area. Don't know if this has any affect. Called Apple. Got a case number. Told me to get new SIM at AT&T Store. Went to AT&T Store. AT&T rep said I needed new phone, not a new SIM. He walked me over to the Apple Store (in the same mall) and told them to replace my phone. I got an appointment for the morning. Apple rep could not have been more apologetic. AT&T rep was tired of having people come in for new SIMs when the phone is the problem. I'll repost after getting new phone. I hope. I also have the left-corner grip antenna signal loss issue with this phone. We'll see if the new one is any better in that regard, too.

I have been having the same no sim issue as well multiple times a day. I have already replaced the sim with AT&T on the 25th. That did not fix the problem. I then tried a restore yesterday. Everything seem to be working fine until I paired the phone with the bluetooth in my truck (Ford Sync) around lunch today. Then I started to see the error message again. After turning bluetooth off, I am no longer having the issue. WiFi is always on though. This leaves me to belive that there is an issue with bluethooth like the previous posting. For people having the same issue, do you have bluethooth turned on?

An update to my post:

I had an entire day without problems after turning off bluetooth but then this morning it happened again and this time I had to powercycle it twice and do airplane mode about 20 times before it connected to AT&T. ugh

I just got the same issue. I was watching a video on my phone while eating lunch. I went to leave and kept the headphones in my ears, but locked the screen and put my 32GB iPhone in my pocket. When I got out to my truck, I went to unlock it and nothing was responding. The home button and the lock button wouldn't do anything. I had to hold down both buttons and hard reboot it. When it came back up, it said "No SIM". I took the SIM out and reseated it and toggled airplane mode on and off. I then had service. I then look down a few minutes later and see "NO SERVICE" at the top. It took rebooting the phone again to get it to reconnect to ATT.

So I think I might have solved it. It seems to be working for now but I'm going to let it go for a while.

The problem might be related to the sim card itself and because one end is broken off from a larger plastic card. In the process of breaking it off (at the factory I'm guessing) sometimes more of the plastic will be broken off and other times less. The sim card try seems to be designed for the 'more' scenario. So I took a piece of tape and taped the end so the sim doesn't slide in place. You might just be able to hold the phone tilted to the right to try it out without pulling the sim tray out. Tilt it right and flip the airplane mode option or powercycle (I haven't tried this though). After taping it, I've powercycled it twice and both times it read the sim card. I'd like to hear from you.

I've spoken to apple tech support and did all the things required. The problem kept happening more and more often as time went on. In the end it was less than 20 minutes before I got the error to repeat. I now have a new phone and the problem is gone. The "No Sim Card" problem is a hardware fault in some phones. Take it back. It isn't a problem with the sim card but the phone. I exchange my phone for another and now no issues. It has worked 2 days without a fault. With any new productions sometimes faulty issues arise that basic testing doesn't catch. Apple was good about it. I just showed the genius bar guy the error message and he swapped the phone directly.

Update....

My 'No SIM card installed' reoccurring problem resolved by going back to AT&T and exchanging my phone for another one. Have not had the problem with the replacement phone.

BTW, the other family member in my household never had the problem at all.

Hope this is the "fix" 😀
