Q: Can't play Videos for Fox News

Hi I have not been able to play Fox New Videos Using Safari on my Mac. OSX 10.58. I can only play them on Firefox!
I upgraded to Safari 5.0 thinking that would help. But it didn't. I then upgraded to the latest Quick Time player, and Flash players, but still no go!
I can play videos from CNN and other News Outlets on Safari, so what is the problem??? Do I need some sort of plug in? I am not very familiar with plugins as I am NOT a very techy person, so I need some help.

Thanks

Mac OSX, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

    Try uninstalling/reinstalling flash player.

If that does not work, try changing your DNS:
    System Preferences> Network> Advanced> DNS
Under DNS Servers click the + and add these two separately:
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

Hope one of these works for you!

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...

Fox requires the latest version of Flash. Uninstall then reinstall the Flash Player plugin then repair disk permissions.

    Uninstall Flash

Install the most recent version of Flash here.

Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

HI I tried what you said. Uninstalled FLash Player and reinstalled the latest and then did the Permisssions repair.

I then restarted and went into Fox News on Safari and one Video the latest one there actually played perfectly, but then I tried some others and NONE of them would play at all!

I haven't tried the other suggestion yet of changing my DNS.
The fact is I don't think the problem is with Flash Player as I can play Fox New Videos on Firefox and have been able to do so all along. Its ONLY on Safari that I can't play them.

So I don't know what it is with Safari OR why tonight one Video played fine and the rest wouldn't

    Any more Suggestions here?

    Thanks again

I followed those instructions as well. No joy. Here are the details of my situation...

I have always watched fox news video on my iMac with no problems (http://video.foxnews.com/). Then around 3 months ago it stopped working. When I start my Mac fresh, open Safari, goto Fox News the first video starts to play automatically and the whole video completes. But no other videos will play. I downloaded Chrome, it works fine. I haven't ever tinkered with any settings.

    Can anyone help?

Hi I posted that I had done what you suggested, upgraded Flash and re-done Permission settings, but still am unable to view Fox Videos.

I can view all other News outlets with Safari, ONLY FOX, so it seems its NOT anything to do with Flash but with Safari. I would appreciate a Response thanks!

Alas ... no joy here as well. Uninstall, reinstall, repair perms and still no Fox video.

Solved ... at least for me.

Went to Library > Preferences and deleted the Macromedia folder. Fox news now works fine.

I did all of the above and nothing worked. Then I realized the ad blocker might be blocking the videos for Fox News. To watch videos, I have to disable the adblocker.

That leads to a question. Are there adblockers that will let you enable ads for a particular site?

WIth Safari 5.0.x you can install the AdBlock extension and customize it to allow the Fox sites through. I had the same problems as the posts above, but then did this approach and it works great now.

While my playback fails in Safari and Firefox with all system specs exceeding requirements in FOX's FAQ, I installed Chrome and playback works fine there.
