I am currently using Aperture 2.1.4. and OS X (10.6.2). I am a recent user and have not tethered my S5 Pro to earlier versions of OS X or Aperture. My Nikon D90 tethers just fine. I'm having the exact same problem with my S5 that you are. I can trigger the camera from the Tether HUD, but no image is transferred to Aperture or my memory card in the camera. I was wondering if you arrived at a solution.
Sorry I didn't have the solution for you.

Same for me, but we've been here before with Apple and it was only after immense pressure through these forums and emailing Apple support (loads of users complaining about lack of S5 Pro support) that Apple finally introduced support for the S5 Pro.
Joe Schorr was the Aperture Senior Product Manager back 2006-2008 and he once posted this, so a bit of pestering might get something done.
Apple DOES read these pages, quite closely, virtually every day (even on the weekends!), so I can assure you that if there are pressing issues that are important to you, they are important to me, too. And to the rest of our team.
Our future development is largely driven by the needs of our customers. The Fuji question has been raised before, and I've publicly responded on multiple occasions with the assurance that all feature requests are heard and carefully prioritized.
It's always good to hear what our customers want the most, and what they feel passionate about. There are, of course, many, many internal and external factors that contribute to which features are addressed in which release.
But your voices have been heard.
