How do i force my new iPhone 4 to ask for my 4 digit voicemail password? Since setting up the phone I have no visual voicemail. When I tap on voicemail button it just dials my voicemail.

Any help would be appreciated.

I clicked the voice mail button, it dial and I listened to the operator went to personal options, hung up, clicked the voice mail button again and then it asked me for my 4 digit code and now I have visual mail.

I have the same issue. It asks for my mailbox number - i enter my phone number and it says it can't find the mailbox.

My mailbox number is not the same as my phone number.

Nor has it been on any phone I have had. Try ringing your carrier they will tell you your mailbox number as its their messagecentre number your calling to access voicemail.

I have tried multiple things, resetting my passcode, etc. and nothing has helped. It never prompts me for a password. Short of doing an entire wipe of my new iPhone 4 I don't know what else to do. I'm really angry that I have this much frustration over what should be working on a NEW PHONE!

I can listen to my voicemail without entering a password. How do I force the voicemail to ask me for a password in visual voicemail?

    Hi all,
I had this problem as well - I noticed it first when each time I made a call, it popped up a dialog pointing out the visual voice mail password was incorrect. I thought, password? So I held "1" on the keypad and dialed into the AT&T voice mail and sure enough, no password but in the admin options on the AT&T menu discovered you could turn PW on, and therefore set it. I did this then told the phone the password and viola visual voice mail.
    Hope this helps

((BTW when I first read this thread title I thought it meant an voice mail with video attached from the caller, I thought that would be neat... but no

What I wanted to do was to force the voicemail to ask for my password to listen to a voicemail. With this new iPhone everyone wants to use my phone for games. There is no internal password to stop anyone from hearing my messages.

I don't have visual voicemail and have never had it since I got the phone last week. I tried calling, then hanging up after going to personal options but that didn't do anything to fix this issue. So do I call apple or at&t?!?

If you have a prompt for a password (or even if you don't), go through the menu prompts to password options and turn off the password and see if that works. I am not sure if that is what turned mine on, but that's the last thing I did before my visual voicemail worked.

I am in the US with AT&T as the carrier. You can press and hold 1 and after a few seconds it will automatically dial voice mail by circumventing the visual voice mail function. Providing you are using the same phone number as previous and no new number was assigned to the phone, you can enter your PIN and the phone should start to register and restore your voice mail messages.
