My Iphone 3G was working great until the upgrade...I have have the same problem with the phone being slugish & will try the double hard reset. However, I have also had a problem with battery icon(upper left) after charging the phone, it still reads almost empty. If I shut the phone and restart it reads a full charge...anyone else with this problem?

I'm getting the same issues all of you report on my iPhone 3G w/OS4 and it is also seriously messing with my Lincoln's "Sync" system. The iPhone is causing my satellite radio to drop when the iPhone is cycling on some task and when using the phone interface in my car, the call drops or returns to the iPhone instead of over the speaker system. It has also caused my Sync to crash to the extent that I actually have to turn the car off and on to reset. Under OS3.1.3, I never had any issue, be it the iPhone (aside from AT&T connectivity) or the Sync (which in itself is a pain in the butt on different issues - THANK YOU Microshaft!). The end result is I'm going back to OS3.1.3 and not updating anything. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and brother who needs this kind of aggravation?

Upgraded to OS4 a few weeks ago, been happy with the phone for two years and it becomes part of your life. Unfortunately it now runs like a 'DOG WITH NO LEGS' which is a real pain. Tried everything, restored, reset, deleted many apps I suspected may be unfriendly to OS4 but it's all no good. I only have 5 gig of 16 gig used so its not a memory issue just OS4.

Brings back memories of the Apple System 7 launch a few years back! Been a Apple fan for years but going to look at an Android now I'm out of contract. Was waiting for iPhone 4 but the problems several of my friends have has put me off (screen sensitivity bug causing hangups + redials )

I never post on forums but if my message stops 1 person from doing this upgrade then it is worth it..... is Apple going to be as hated as Microsoft was? It is easy to loose customer loyalty!

Apple doesn't follow these forums. Please send your response to them as formal feedback. If the 60,000+ people who have viewed this thread had reported the problems they are having, it would be clear to Apple that there is a growing tsunami of customer dissatisfaction heaaing their way.

    @mgrosvenor,

This is formal feedback, we are all leaving feedback in this Apple Support Forum. I dont see why we all have to individually submit through another method where we can't track results as a group.

I think most of us want an open discussion with Apple rather than use the one-on-one feedback form you posted a link too.

If that were true, then why are so many posts about this problem being removed? Apple definitely keeps a very close watch on these forum even though they pretend not to.

I notice the same things and it is so annoying!!! Why do I need to wait 15 seconds to see a text or hear the phone ring? I wish I had never done it the bad out weighs the good all the way!

My 3G iPhone is now '********' slow since iOS4 was introduced.

    I'm not happy.

I had the same performance issues with the iPhone 3G after upgrade to iOS 4.
I seem to have found a SOLUTION, at least a workaround:

Settings > Notifications > Facebook: set all to off

My iPhone is definitely much more reactive now. Please try if this works for you and post your feedback here. Maybe the Facebook app is the main culprit after all?

I tried this and I think the phone is more responsive. I say "I think" because mine wasn't anyway as bad as others apparently are (Messages is the slower app and it takes exactly 7 seconds to load, everything else is quite responsive. I never experienced delays in ringing, but I have experienced delays in text input — but these tend to come and go). I suppose settings, number and type of apps installed etc. must have some influence on performance.
I think that if we took sometime confronting our settings, installed applications, etc. we might come to a conclusion of what is slowing the phones down.
The truth is this thread is very active, and being such a problem for us all it surely looks that EVERY 3G OWNER is experiencing this. But IS THIS SO? There are around 300 people here. The others (there are quite a few...) can't find their way to this forum or they simply don't have any problem? Do we know of 3G owners who don't? That might be useful also.

For now, I think I'll try this: to uninstall every non-system app, and afterwards slowly put everything back in.

To bed heard by Apple post at www.apple.com/feedback

It's a direct link to Apples tech monitors I'm being told, so flood them with your question and maybe they'll get the message we are unhappy consumers.

Well i am one of the persons that once i trusted Apple, and updated from 3.1 to 3.1.2; after that tethering was removed (i have official Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G).

(i use tethering in my daily work as i am chief engineer responsible for every single field engineer in the ground. )

now before updating my Firmware, i deep search in all forums to see the outcome.
Thank you for your post, and i will not update

in response to the facebook note, was that a joke? I've never used facebook & the Iphone 3G is the same as the rest of you.

I recommend using the feedback link repeatedly posed here to tell apple, they do say after filling it out that they wont respond.which makes it a abit pointless.

I have to say apples idea of customer service seems to be ignore them & hope they go away from my experience with an Iphone over the last 15months.

I really dont think they have any intention of doing anything about it as they have not even mentioned there is a problem or aware they have had complaints!

the only people I know who have not had a problem with OS4 are the people I managed to warn not to upgrade 1st & happily using 3.1.3

    oh the happy days....
on the plus point we can now make playlists on the ipod bit! (something every other mp3 player has been able to do for the last 5 years)
Its a PC I made, Windows XP Pro, its pretty good :-P

I have two 3G phones that I updated to 4.0 and I did each phone from different mac pros and different update downloads from the Apple site. Both phones will never show a charge in the upper icon no matter how long they charge. Only after doing a hard shutdown and reboot will they ever show the true full charge in the battery icon. So definitely a software bug that falls on deaf ears at Apple.
