Wonder... We are trying to help but you still fail to answer an important question I have asked you twice. What operation system is your mac using. Tiger 10.4?, Leopard 10.5?, or Snow Leopard 10.6? It matters.

Only change I see is that I have fewer bars than before. Only 4 when I had 5 before the update. That's supposed to make me feel better?

I had held out some hope based on what some of the more rational Apple guys here were saying, and that was that Apple doesn't like to admit mistakes they've made, but then just quietly rolls out real fixes in the update. Some articles in the media also hinted that Apple might slip in a real fix with the update, but these were also guys that were inclined to believe the issues were software related.

I guess that might have been the case if it were software issues causing the reception problems, but that doesn't work quite so well for hardware based issues.

Unfortunately for Apple if accuracy means displaying fewer bars, then they are going to have more complaints than before. I'm not having any issues that I haven't been able to repair easily for my self but I know that there are plenty of people out there that just want perfection without interaction.

Yeah, how silly of people to expect 'perfection' by the absurd act of 'interacting' with their phone as in holding it. We should all know better than that!

May be Apple mentality to this issue is to make fewer bars thus deflecting customer anger away from Apple and toward AT&T since Apple will be cozy with Verizon next year anyway.

Here's a thought Jason. If there was a recall coming, would Apple have even bothered with this meaningless update?

there must be something wrong in this iOS 4.0.1 update because I can't unlock the sim just after having completed the software update. really disappointed.

I am running iphone 4 32gb with ios4.0.1 and the Sim lock function works fine for me. as soom as i turn phone on it asks for passcode then it says sim locked so i hit unlock and enter my pin and all is good. Maybe try looking in setting > Phone > SIM PIN and turn it off.

Issue: The problem is the proximity sensor sensitivity needs to be more sensitive. When you rest the phone on your shoulder the screen turns on and off and on and when it is on it is active which in my case my cheek hits the mute/hold button.

Resolution: 4.0.1 has fixed my sensor. It seems to be very snappy. It activates and deactivates very fast after the new firmware. I will have to also test out with the wife's iPhone4 Hope this helps

It was OK the first minutes with my voice mail but after a first call, the problem came back. No fix for the proximity sensor and no fix for the antenna. Apple, this is a suicide !

OK - Thanks guys. Nothing works for me. I have done the DFU if that entails holding the menu buttons and the power button. It then asks me to connect to iTunes. I do that and it forces me to update and restore.

I get as far as "preparing iphone for restore" and then it crashes to the error 21 and leaves me with an Apple sign on the iphone.

So i am stuck. Is there anything else i can do. Very bad Apple.

OK thanks for that. I had to update my profile when I asked you that first question. Something easily overlooked.

My update keeps failing with restore error 3014, after the software is extracted and right after it tries to verify the update with apple.

Phone is in recovery mode, so my only option is to Restore and Update.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Phone is bricked for now.

"I guess I'll download it anyway when I get home, but it's really disappointing that Apple continues to ignore REAL issues."

This attitude really bugs me. Apple has announced a press conference for tomorrow to discuss the iPhone 4 -That doesn't sound like they're ignoring the issues at all. This update did exactly what Apple said it would do -fix the way the signal is <displayed> on the phone. Apple has always been loathe to admit mistakes, but it's actually been very prompt at addressing them, even if it's a quiet, under-the-table fix without any hoopla.

So far, two or three people have also reported improvement with the proximity sensor problem -I hope more people will chime in on that issue.

In the meantime, some of us need to calm down a bit and have a little patience. The blogosphere is alive with speculation about tomorrow's announcement(s), but several reliable sources are pointing to a hardware fix that could likely be done while you wait in an Apple Store. Let's see what Apple has to say about this tomorrow, and if they ignore the issues we can all rant away with self-righteous justification. My bet is either a fix, or an acknowledgement of the problem(s) and a roadmap for fixing them.
