It would appear that the echo cancellation incompatibility has been resolved with iOS4 for my two Pioneer head units (DEH-P7000BT and FH-P8000BT). No garbled connection even when talking from car to car with both echo cancellations active (on low). Overall sound quality seems improved as well. I too have a stereo bluetooth issue: autoconnect no longer works (stereo bluetooth only). I do not find it necessary to have the phone forget the head unit to get it working, though. This is how I am doing it:
    1. Open connection function on the head unit from BT Audio mode
    2. Turn to "BT Audio device" (do NOT select paired device or your phone by name)
    3. Select "standard" by pressing down (of course)
    4. Wait for head unit to display "ready"
    5. Open Bluetooth settings on iphone and touch the device name you are connecting to
    6. You should be connected within 5 seconds (maybe 10 seconds?)

You're good to go as long as you don't power down. This is an inconvenience, but it really only takes about 30 secs all told.

Why is BT Audio autoconnect now effed? Not a clue. But at least there's a workaround.

By the way, anyone else lose the pause and stop functionality as well?

Am I misunderstanding, or are you saying there is a way to get Audio working on the P7000BT?

I've tried everything I can think of (including your method) and I can't get it to connect by Auto or manual. Phone BT works fine though and my 3G still connects to both Audio and Phone.

I finally took the plunge and updated my 3GS to OS4. As others have reported the bluetooth phone calling feature on the DEH-P7000BT works flawlessly now. Good job Apple!

_Now for the EPIC FAIL part_:
OS4 introduces a bug in bluetooth streaming audio on the DEH-P7000BT. The auto-connect feature does not work and forget about attempting to manually connect as that does not work either. The steps that ifanatic provided is a good work-around for getting it going. Thanks figuring that out ifanatic.

It's going to be a PITA to go through those steps every time you get in the car (if you want to listen to music wirelessly) but at least there's a valid work-around.

...and now we wait again for Apple to release another bluetooth update for the Iphone OS. Lets hope they get it right in the next revision. lol

Thanks, ifanatic, for figuring that one out.

I have an iphone 3GS w OS 4.0 with DEH-P7000BT, and experiencing the same symptoms as everyone else recently:

    1. Phone echo problem fixed.
    2. Bluetooth audio auto-reconnect broken. Have to reconnect the ifanatic way.

Almost feels like the apple engineers are playing jokes on us...

Just to add to the discussion, I have the 9800BT. For me, the auto connect does not work either. I just got an iphone and my other phones auto-connected fine.

I was able to register the iphone 4 as documented in the manual. Once this was done, I could then just Connect phone and it connects. It takes me about 5 to 10 seconds to do this, but is a manual process.

I have seen a glitch where BT audio and a phone call got things whacked and sound would not come out of my speakers. So far, it is working ok, but it would be nice to get this working as it should.

Unit AT (or anyone else), has anyone tested the Kenwood KDC-BT945U with the new iPhone 4 + iOS4? Are they compatible? Does the wireless music stream okay or do you need to use the USB cable? How's the BT audio for calls?

I'm interested in this head unit but I want to make sure it will work with the iPhone 4 and iOS4 before I purchase it.

    Thanks.

Has anyone opened a ticket to Apple on this yet ? I opened one just now requesting a call tomorrow morning. I posted the last page of this thread in the ticket so they can verify it's not just me.

    WHERE WE STAND:
    1. Iphone 4 has bluetooth Muffled sound to Incoming calling party, outgoing calls
are for most part ok. When connected, quality and range of audio is very
reduced with minimal performance. Bluetooth device drops on and off while
    paired.
Trouble pairing some devices that work fine with other phones and cars. Stereo
headphone devices range, quality very reduced for various makes/models.
    2. Problem appears to NOT be any single make/model of bluetooth device.

    3. Attempted Fixes:
    A) Soft reset of iPhone4 under settings....No help.
    B) Hard reset of iPhone4 -Holding Home and power button at same time..NO Help.
    C) Complete Reset of iPhone4 with iTunes....No Help.
    D) Switching bluetooth On and Off while on call....No Help.
    E) Removing bluetooth device on iPhone (ignore this device) and re-pairing
    device as new....No Help.
    D) Switching from speaker to bluetooth to iPhone to bluetooth....No Help.
    E) Installing insulted iPhone cover, sleeve....No Help.
    F) Contacting Apple support with trouble ticket MANY Times....NO HELP.

    There's hope for iOS 4.1!

"...Steve Jobs announced the upcoming availability of iOS 4.1 for the iPhone and iPod touch. Jobs noted that the long running proximity sensor, Bluetooth, and iPhone 3G performance bugs that have been raised by users will be fixed in this update. "

Hopefully we should know if the bluetooth issue is fixed in a few days when iOS 4.1 is released.

    Hi,

Just tested 4.1 this morning with my 3GS and Pioneer DEH-P700BT car audio (quite similar to P7000BT and so on), it still won't reconnect after first pairing. Just like 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2.
However, you'll be glad to notice that AVRCP is well done, as remote commands now work from the Pioneer device. Only once then.
Apple, please bring back correct A2DP profile, grrrrr !!!!

I can confirm that os 4.1 does not fix the a2dp pairing issue with the deh-p7000bt. I also gave Pioneer a call, the guy on the line offered no help. He said that it was a hardware issue with apple and they(pioneer) were not looking into a fix because of the age of the stereo. I do not agree 100% but that is what I was told.

Ifanatic, your procedure worked for me thanks. Note I can also select the Nokia phone and it will also work, besides the "standard" option. Nice job.

    Hi,

Ol_Drippy, this is definitely not a hardware issue, at least on 3GS, as BT stereo was perfectly working after powering down and up again with ios 3.
The issue we're talking about comes with ios 4.

    Regards.
