Using the Magic Trackpad, how do you select multiple files in a folder? How do you select a file to rename it?

It is a 2-finger operation. Use one finger to click and hold while dragging the another finger across what you want to select.

I just do a single finger double tap and drag and it selects multiple cells.

I find it the same way as mouse..
    a) using key modifier at same time (eg shift or command)
    b) lasso approach using double tap and drag (make sure double tab is on background)

How do you select a file to rename it?

Single tap on file followed by second single tap (same as mouse)

This does not work for me. Single tap selects it. Second tap opens it.

Sounds like you are double tapping. Maybe you need to wait a fraction longer between taps, possibly closer to 1 second. I am about half second between taps

I'll try the methods proposed here again, but they have not worked for me. What DID work was setting my 'three finger,' trackpad preferences to Dragging.

I guess it make take some getting use to, but I do find it more relaxing and 'graceful,' to use (using it with my left hand...grab the mouse with my right if I need to).
