Every time I open a Numbers document, make any change, hit save, it prompts me to save as... I'm forced to save over my previous copy every time.

History: I used the demo version of Numbers for a month, converting all my excel docs to numbers (no fancy formulas or nothing). I set them up in iTunes to sync to my iPad. Dont' remember having this problem. Went on vacation, came back, paid for a Numbers license, and now it does this every time.

Any ideas?

As far as I know, a Numbers document imported in an iPad is modified for iPad use.
So, I may imagine that when it returns to the Mac, it is treated as a new document.

Did you printed your documents ?
It was explained here, many times, that printing *_changes the contents of the document_*.

Can you supply more details? It sounds as if you're trying to save to a folder for which you don't have sufficient rights. But could be a million other things I guess. Does this happen on your Mac? Which directory are you saving into?

This is on my mac. All of these files are Numbers files, stored in the same directory they've always been stored in, I have all permissions. I open a numbers file, make a change, select save, and Numbers brings up the save as.. dialog. I can overwrite the old file in the same directory with the save as... dialog, but it's very annoying. It doesn't happen every time, lately save has worked properly, but occasionally it still forces a save as.

It's possible that i made changes to the files on my iPad. All of them are linked in iTunes to my iPad (the reason I switched from Excel in the first place), but it doesn't seem likely, because I can't remember changing more than a couple on the iPad and this happened more than twice, probably ten times by now.

    Maybe your memory fooled you.
I'm quite sure that if you open a document on the iPad then resend it to your mac, it will be treated as a changed one.
