iOS is 4.1.

Sep 23, 2010 5:20 AM in response to whoknows7by freshHua_SZ,Use "iBrate" app and pat the area near the motor very kindly.
My two iPhone 4 can vibrate.
Than you for the help. -
Oct 5, 2010 2:05 PM in response to mrshinyteethby PartisanEntity,Thanks so much. Your solution worked. Clever and simple.
Disapointing that one has to deal with something like this on a brand new state of the art device. -

Nov 17, 2010 1:09 AM in response to Jscott2twoby pl4ter,Hello, first time poster at the apple forum.
I have a similar problem with the vibration. My iphone vibrates, but then its really weak. to a point where i know its vibrating when its in my hand and me looking at it. But when its in my pocket, i wouldnt feel anything at all.
I have tried downloading the iBrate app and i tried the method of just gently tapping on where the motor is and it works. But only for a little while. After around an hr or so, it will go back to the same way of the weak motor.
Anyone know how i can fix this problem? or do i just have to send in the phone to apple? -
Nov 23, 2010 1:39 PM in response to pl4terby Bundito,I've had to do the iBrate/thump fix twice in the last three days. It works, but it sure seems like a recurring problem.
Does anyone yet know the cause of this? Is the motor dirty and getting jammed? Does it have anything to with the motor being so close to the headphone jack? Repeated plugging and unplugging fouling something up? Or is it something nasty like pocket lint getting in through the jack port?
I'm normally not afraid to open up my gadgets and do my own maintenance. But we're talking about a $300 phone from a company not known for their love of hackers and tinkerers. Anyway, I suspect unscrewing those two little screws on the bottom would void my warranty instantly - am I correct?
If this persists, is my only option to hit the local Apple Store (some time AFTER Black Friday) and try to get it repaired/replaced? But, again, is this affecting all phones? Or just some? If it's a defect in manufacturing - hey, it happens - I'll go through the hassle of replacement. But if a replaced phone is going to start acting up in a few months... hm.

Nov 29, 2010 9:06 PM in response to whoknows7by JBULLFROGDOTCOM,I also have been experiencing this. The other day my iphone 4 just stopped vibrating. I downloaded the iBrate app, and when I tap the upper left front side of the iphone it will vibrate. As soon as I turn the off the iBrate app, and turn it back on it will not vibrate unless i tap the front again. I also just updated to iOS 4.2.1 so I don't know if that is also the issue. It would seem as though this is a manufacturing defect. I plan on going into the local apple store, but I bought the iphone from Best Buy, so I don't know if they will do anything. I'm an iOS developer and test app builds on this device daily and take business call's (when I notice a call coming in that is, no thanks to the vibrating that should be working), I also don't want to be out of a phone if they insist on it being shipped out to get repairs. Has anyone brought their iphone in and received a new one on the spot before leaving the store? If so did they keep your old one? I have important data on the device and don't want to just hand my phone over. -
Dec 1, 2010 12:49 PM in response to mrshinyteethby Jmac69,you sir, are a genius. thanks for that. Mine is now fixed as well!
