    *I fixed it!!*

The gist of it: the problematic device – be it a Mac, iPhone, iPad or an iPod – is no longer trusted by the iTunes Store. Here's what I did to make said device (in my case a new iPhone 4) "trustworthy" again ...

    1. Remove credit card info from the iTunes Store
    2. Make sure it says "No credit card on file" under "Payment Information"
    3. Sign out of the Store on all devices (Macs and iOS devices)
    4. Reboot all devices (probably unnecessary, I did it anyway)
    5. Sign in to iTunes Store *with the problematic device*
    6. Re-enter credit card info *using the problematic device*
    7. Sign back in with other devices

I've posted a long version with more details and a few screenshots on my blog: "" (yes, the headline is meant to be sarcastic)

I did this last night and so far my previously problematic iPhone 4 has been flawless again – I've updated apps, downloaded apps, in short, done everything that was previously impossible.

Needless to say that I'm absolutely psyched to have found a solution for this extremely annoying issue

And hopefully this'll help some of you guys, too.

frank g is the man! Did the following:
    1. On Windows 7 iTunes, removed payment info
    2. On iOS4, signed out of iTunes store
    3. Rebooted iOS4
    4. Closed & reopened iTunes on Windows 7 PC
    5. Entered CC info in iTunes on Windows 7 PC
    6. Updated Apps --> no CC info needed

    Hope it sticks.

This is likely to start happening again as soon as there are updates to any app that was purchased (or free app) downloaded on a different itunes account and transferred to your iphone. If you toggle back and forth in itunes on your computer, you can probably;y get through this, but on the iphone updates may get caught in an endless verification loop. Apple has stepped up it's verification process and so it makes it harder to share apps between accounts without updating via computer rather than via app store on your iphone. There is no way to actually fix this entirely. When you reset your account and sync in itunes on your computer you temporarily reset things until the next in phone, other account update comes.

This problem suddenly happened to me when I tried to download a movie on my Apple TV. It sent me back to my computer to verify my account.
To solve the problem I had to give it a different credit card. Then it worked OK

I can't just click accept - it keeps asking for the CVN. This is really annoying since I generally just get free stuff!

I am also having this problem. I verify my credit card info and fill in the blank for the security code. It doesn't work when I try to update my apps. I tried deleting a free app and then downloading it again, presumably now it is the latest version. That worked. But some apps I paid for and I can't get the updates.

I keep trying, it keeps asking me to verify, everything there is right except the security code has disappeared. I reenter it and it starts all over again.

Thanks for all the posts describing this problem. At least I know now I am not crazy, deficient, etc.

Here is what worked for me. I can't update on my new phone....but can on others...I had to delete each app as update came up...and then re install them one by one....
I did end up setting up a new password for itunes and apple id since they now require a cap and a number in the new password...I am sure this will be confusing for awhile.
I presume it all started when I restored my new phone from my computer....has something to do with security I guess but sure makes for some wasted time.

I am a US resident working in the Caribbean who has used iTunes for years. I recently purchased an AppleTV from the US. I got everything hooked up and went to use my AppleTV for the first time and got the "verify payment information" message. Went to iTunes just as everyone else described. Entered my US payment information and my US billing address... got the "your credit card was declined" message. Tried multiple methods of valid payment - even an iTunes gift certificate - which it redeemed... but can't use unless I "verify my billing inforamtion". ...I agree that it seems to be some sort of security thing and possibly related to the off-shore IP address, but tried also rerouting it through a US IP address with no luck. VERY frustrating as I now can not use iTunes at all. And can't use my brand new Apple TV. Can no longer download anything at all from iTunes. Pitty iTunes is shooting themselves in the foot. I also tried emailing the iTunes folks, but got pre-fab responses that didn't even address the problem, basically telling me I was entering my payment information in wrong, or that it was a problem with the credit card companies... which is is not. Very frustrated right now.
