I've created a slideshow in iPhoto that I want to export from iPhoto and then import into DVD Studio. I've tried a couple different settings when exporting but I keep getting the 'Incompatible Format' error message when I try to import into dvd studio. The slideshow is in 16:9. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Export it as an uncompressed movie, then encode it to an m2v in Compressor. Not sure what settings for the .mov you are using from iPhoto, but you maybe exporting it to a codec that DVD SP cannot use.

    What settings are you using?

The problem is that if you Export out a slideshow in iPhoto, it creates a MPEG-4 video, which indeed is incompatible with DVD SP.

You can bring that video into MPEG Streamclip and convert it to the Animation codec, then bring that into Compressor (or DVD SP) where it will be converted to a MPEG-2 video. But, if you do this then you will loose quality because you are double compressing your video.

You can also create a slideshow in DVD SP by going up to the Stills tab in DVD SP palette. There you will find the slideshow you created in iPhoto. Unfortunately all the transitions and Ken Burns effects you put into iPhoto will all be lost.

Ok, so I exported from iPhoto using the Animation codec with very nice results. I had to import direct into DVD SP and let it do the encode because Compressor would not recognize the file. I haven't used Compressor since upgrading from a earlier version a few months ago. But something definitely doesn't seem right. None of the windows are displayed on launch and all video files are 'grayed out' when I choose File>Open. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling from the disc with no results. Any ideas?

What's the difference between using Compressor and just letting DVD SP do the encode?

Thanks again to all! Your input is very helpful!

Video compression is an art, not a science. Different encoding engines will give you different results. There is no "just push this button to get great results." While Compressor and DVD SP use the same encoding engine, Compressor will give you more control over the encoding process and thus you get get better results.

Plus, the only way to compress the audio is through Compressor. DVD SP will not compress the audio.

Thanks Shawn. That makes perfect sense. Any thoughts on why Compressor isn't working at all? I downloaded the latest update 3.5.2 with no results.

I would search the Compressor forums.
