Unfortunately, you may be limited for the time being. See "steko's" suggestion here.

Aug 24, 2010 1:08 AM in response to Don Ju4nby Trash II Treasure,I agree. The 3-finger gesture is just what we need - I switch tabs more often than i want to go forward/backward through pages. -

Keep in mind, Magicprefs is only for a Magic Mouse.
"MagicPrefs is a toolbar application for OS X which aims to improve the functionality and configuration options of the Apple Magic Mouse."
And BetterTouchTool does not include the MacBookPro:
"BetterTouchTool adds many new, fully customizable gestures to Magic Mouse, Macbook Touchpad and now even to the Magic Trackpad!"

Oct 31, 2011 10:21 AM in response to Don Ju4nby Cloudream, nexTab added switch tabs gesture to Safari and other browsers. (Hold one finger on trackpad, tap another)
It works out of the box, you could launch and forget it.

Nov 1, 2011 4:44 PM in response to Cloudreamby Don Ju4n,Thank you for the reply! I sorta gave up on this a while ago and instead started using Firefox with BTT and I got it all sorted out. I sort of just forgot about safari (whcih for some reason i find INCREDIBLY slow)
(I hope I dont break any internet laws talking about 3rd party apps here )

Mar 21, 2012 12:31 PM in response to Don Ju4nby LenB_USA,An alternative to using the trackpad is to use CTRL-tab. Not exactly what you were looking for but it is a convenient alternative.

Jun 1, 2016 9:33 AM in response to Don Ju4nby docwarren,In OsX Mavericks you can use a pinch gesture to view all tabs in a card style format. Not sure how long this functionality has existed. I discovered it by accident.
