Sep 5, 2010 6:49 PM in response to valhumby Visigoth123,I tried doing what valhum did and it wasn't working for me. However changing the billing info to 'None' on my phone did let me at least download my App updates. But I can't get it to take my credit card information to make purchases.
Great job Apple while countless people in our situation are going for more than a week without being able to give you our money.... I think I saw a link for some Android phones around someplace, if I can remember where... -
Sep 5, 2010 6:58 PM in response to Visigoth123by valhum,So far, still working for me. I just bought an app and downloaded some free apps =/ -
Sep 5, 2010 8:02 PM in response to losmendels2by BrazilNuts,None of these worked for me. My charge cards (not credit cards) are all in order and there is no reason to have my account blocked. I am still working for a solution from Apple´s iTunes customer service, however with the long weekend this will probably take some more time to be resolved. Shame they take a long time to answer and have only email service.
Amazon will probably win me at least for my entertainment needs as they have phone customer service and it is easy to rent or buy movies and songs from them. Just guess what I am going to do with my Apple hardware.
In the meantime I guess how many other people would like to rent movies or buy songs and are caught on this annoying system glitch.
For myself, I got an iPad, iPhone 4(plus 3GS, 3G and 2G), Apple TV classic all dependent on the iTunes store. Maybe I made a huge mistake on relying on Apple for my entertainment system, mobile apps and much more.
I will probably sell also my apple shares first thing after the holidays as it looks like they are losing their grip on the business. -
Sep 5, 2010 8:10 PM in response to losmendels2by jennwarburt,I have tried all of these suggested steps and nothing is working for paid content, though switching to "None" in iTunes did finally allow me to get a free app that I needed. Why does it seem that the problem started with iTunes 10 for me? I updated (MISTAKE) and immediately after the credit card declined issue started. Sent the email to customer support and now I wait. Frustrating.
US credit cards, several, even PayPal blocked because Apple requires that I enter a US funding source into PayPal. ALL of my funding sources are US. The endless loop of frustration. Tried on my MBP, iPad, iPhone4, iTouch. Everything with the latest OS updates.
Any other ideas out there? -
Sep 5, 2010 8:27 PM in response to jennwarburtby Visigoth123,Some people reported luck with getting a VPN connection going on the iPhone into the US. There's a free App in the store that you can install by doing the 'None' billing info trick on your iPhone. They'll give you a 30 day free account when you register.
However having said that, it didn't work for me for being able to get paid content working. My attempts at updating my billing information on the iPhone still fail. But I guess at least now I have a VPN setup on my iPhone that might help the next time Apple suffers from some rectal-cranial developmental challenges. -
Sep 6, 2010 12:41 AM in response to yamrajby araham,I've tried everything suggested in the various threads but still no success. I sent a fifth exasperated email to iTunes support and just received the following:
"Hello,
I really wish I could answer your question, but I honestly don't know the answer. I have seen this on a few accounts and forwarded it on to another department for research. What I do know is the accounts I have forwarded have been fixed and are now functioning. However, it did take a few days of research. Given the prior timeframes it will be another 3 to 4 days.
I'm confident this will be addressed for you. I know it's frustrating to spend all your time and several emails trying to get the account up and running. As soon as I hear back from the group I escalated to I will email and let you know the status.
Thanks again for your patience. I'll be getting back to you soon."
Has anyone tried getting around this problem by using iTunes gift cards purchased at a store? I haven't tried yet because if I buy an iTunes card here in Hong Kong, I'm afraid I won't be able to use it to buy things at the US store. -
Sep 6, 2010 1:53 AM in response to losmendels2by kgemmell,I wish I had seen this thread before I spent the last two hours of my life trying to run every troubleshooting application I have for iTunes and trying every form of payment, even setting up a paypal account. In my opinion, this is crap, it shouldn't take them weeks to resolve these issues. -
Sep 6, 2010 6:44 AM in response to Elaine Harrisby Yorkbiz,Where did you send the email? I can't get one through! -
Sep 6, 2010 7:48 AM in response to losmendels2by djcash1,I have been having the problem for a week and have been emailing with iTunes Customer Service. All I get back is that they're really sorry and they're investigating my problem. They'll e-mail me when I have a resolution. When I asked them if they could escalate my issue before I take my new iPad on vacation this Friday, they informed me that the resources are first come, first serve. After seeing this thread, I see that it appears that it's a long line. After buying multiple iPhones, multiple Macs, Apple TV and an iPad... not sure that I want to buy any more Apple products after this customer service experience! -
Sep 6, 2010 9:22 AM in response to Visigoth123by sjhpix,I can't figure out how to do the NONE selection on my iPhone, the "configure" screen that it prompts when my payment is declined is basically static. I would just like to update my **** free apps for starters.
Here's what happened to me: US citizen with US iTunes account forever, PayPal for payment w/ US bank account, based in Shanghai, problem began on 8/25 for me on my iPhone after working no problem for App Store downloads and updates all of August from Europe and other non-US based places. Now after 8/25 back in Shanghai seems can't download or update anything. I got same boilerplate email from customer service and nothing working for me still. It is Memorial Day weekend in US so granted probably need to wait until Tuesday US time for a reply. I imagine if there were hacks from china then that's not a good thing working in our favor (china-based US iTunes accounts), but my wife's iPod Touch is working fine for updates and app downloads and she is here in Shanghai as well ... so go figure, totally strange the whole thing. -
Sep 6, 2010 9:34 AM in response to sjhpixby sjhpix,But after 10+ years of apple products, I can say this is a total fluke, so although I'm a bit peeved and frustrated with the problem, I'm sure there is likely a fairly complicated issue they're dealing with whether in fact it is licensing problems outside of USA based accounts and/or hackers into iTunes, in a year of using an iPhone and many years using iTunes, have never had a problem with hardware or software. Lets just hope this gets sorted soon. -
Sep 6, 2010 11:36 AM in response to arahamby SkippyGH,I have purchased a $50 iTunes card.......to no evail; DECLINED. Yup, I know. Very idiotic of a HUGE corporation to have such issue weeks long. Its well over 50,000 customers and they're handling each as a "first come, first serve" or "case by case" basis. Tomorrow will be my 16th day
Good Luck. -
Sep 6, 2010 1:49 PM in response to SkippyGHby valhum,I was able to download apps yesterday and today i got an email from customer service telling me that it seems to be solved and to wait 24hrs, so i guess that is why it worked yesterday.
So, i guess you guys need to wait more until you get your email =/ -
Sep 6, 2010 9:55 PM in response to Yorkbizby araham,@ Yorkbiz: here is the address where you can send an email: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html?form=account&topic=iTunes%20Sto re%20Account%20and%20Billing&subtopic=Billing%20Inquiries -
Sep 7, 2010 4:26 AM in response to sjhpixby apwfamily,I have a similar problem. My wife and I, both US citizens but based in Hong Kong for a year, bought a ton of apple hardware over the last 4 years and a boatload of content from the iTunes store on multiple devices. Both our accounts suddenly stopped working last week and all we've got is the generic emails from apple support. I've heard the same story from many of my US colleagues based here is HK. Really, really frustrating....and not like Apple at all....
