I used my email address for the account alias when signing up. The system allowed this and I have posted 2 messages.

Shortly after, however, the system issued an email saying that an email name was not acceptable as an alias and that I needed to change the alias.

On the account page that indicates my alias is the link to My Settings. However, on my settings there is no option to change (rename) the alias?

Further, there is no Help topic on this matter. I have obtained another account using a different email address pending resolution?

Thanks,

Mark

Did you have a chance to read the sticky at the top of this page?

Seriously? They started looking into this in February 2008 and STILL haven't come up with a way to let people change their alias?!

As I understand it, the problem is with the underlying Jive Software. Since Apple didn't write it, they are dependent on Jive fixing the problem. Obviously Jive either couldn't or wouldn't so Apple is replacing the whole AD system with something new called "Communities".

Wait... so you were able to change your alias but we can't?

I had to create this new account to start using a new alias but my name is still on this forum and all over Google.

    Thanks Apple!

Stop posting and you will fade into obscurity.

Typical Apple answer, hold the phone the right way.

There is an issue here that can be EASILY fixed yet no one cares. I have already submitted proof of how some people have had their nicknames changed and how topics suddenly disappear to a few people... we'll see where this will end up.

We live in an age where people care about their privacy and their names showing everywhere is not right. What would you do if your real FULL name was your Alias?

No one forced you to use your real name as your alias - an alias is just that, a name that is not real or your own. As I said before, stop posting and you will fade into well deserved obscurity.

No one told me that my Alias was going to be plastered all over the internet either. Other sites let you know before hand to make sure. I'm not the only one here who didn't get the concept of Alias and had to create other accounts (like this one) to keep posting.

    qb84,

"How do I create my public profile?
When you log in to Apple Discussions for the first time with your Apple ID, you will be asked to create a New User Account, which will serve as your public profile. Choose a memorable alias (user name) that's between 2 and 30 characters in length and type it in the Alias field.
Important: If you enter your real name in the Alias field, your real name will appear as your alias. Also note that angle bracket characters ( ) are not allowed. Once you create an alias, you cannot make changes to it. If you want to change your alias, you will need to create a new User Account."

    qb84,

"Remember the software they had before Jive?"

Yes I do. And the software before that! Note my Registered date of 7/2/01.
I also remember the opportunity given to create my Alias.

Did they have a warning like the one you just showed me?
If it was just me I would agree with you but something was wrong when a bunch of people entered their names as Aliases.
The system doesn't work and the fact that some people have had the ability to change it says something.

Ali, don't waste your breath, qb84 won't listen to reason, s/he just wants to pick a fight. I am not going to reply to any more of his/her posts.
