Hope someone can offer suggestions

this is a 64MB wifi ipad I have had since 30th April. I love it and it has been excellent until today.

I had used it yesterday evening and it still had 55% showing on the battery - so it was just switched off overnight and left (no wifi running there is no signal where I am as we are away from home in our motorhome and I only charge it when it drops to 20%). Now it has been being charged bias it's mains lead via an inverter

When I looked this morning it was dead - I thought it odd but plugged it in to charge - only there was not the usual start up just nothing. And nothing still later

as I not home I do not have access to a mains socket or my computer

any thoughts would be appreciated

carol

I'd get to a mains supply and charge it with the ipad-included wall charger for a feew hours. If that doesn't bring it up to where it'll turn on, then you probably need to take it to an Apple store for testing.

    Or contact:

I had the same thing happen. I did a hard power off, held down the power button until the power off slider comes up, then shut off the ipad. Put it on charge overnight and it started right up the following morning. Not a problem since.

    Hi,

Try pressing SLEEP/WAKE button and HOME button *at the same time* to force it restart for 2 or 3 times and see if it can turn on. Sometime it's just turn off by itself (happens more frequently for me esp when the battery is low) and we have to force it to start again.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for this Sleep + Home tip! I just had the same problem with a dead iPad and this fixed it. Since I live in the Netherlands, I already had visions of having to send it to the US for repair (I bought it in San Francisco). Fortunately, not necessary. Thanks.

Thanks as well, we had the exact same problem. the iPad just wouldn't turn on or respond to the usb cable but after doing this trick a few times it simply turned on again! saved us a lot of hassle with having to go to the Apple store and all that. great tip!

Good tip on holding down home button and sleep/wake button for about 10 seconds.

This fixed my dead iPad problem. When it came back on it was 84% battery so the issue with it going dead was not a weak battery.

The iPad was working for me about noon today and then around 3:30pm, I went to use it again and it was completely dead. I pressed and help the sleep/wake button and no luck.

Did not drop it or be rough with it, it was just DEAD.

Came online to see if others were having the same issue and found this tip. Hurray!!!!

Anyway this is a very good tip and I bet it fixes most DEAD IPAD issues.

Same issue. Holding down the two buttons worked for me as well, but had to keep them down for 15 seconds.

I really want to know what happened.

Thanks for the sleep/wake + home tip, my Ipad is now safely charging and seems to be working fine. I was almost in a panic as I am on vacation way out in the country and would have had to wait to return to Geneva for Apple assistance.

I had the same problem with my iPad, found this discussion (and another similar one), and tried the two-button trick twice, without success. But then I tried it again with it plugged into the charger, and it worked that time. So that might be worth keeping in mind as well.

Thank you! Thank you! i didnt want to lose all my photos (most of my apps are free and I can reinstall them, then link to reinstate my user). Mine had about 70% charge when it woke up! Definately not a battery problem.

Mine had 30% battery, left it on charge overnight. Woke up this morning and totally dead. Have tried both buttons at the same time, with it plugged in and without but still nothing.

Will take to the Apple store later
