I apparently did something to cause this problem. My Iphoto application has duplicates of most of my pictures it also has no events or any of the settings I had yesterday.
I have one event and it contains all of my images with duplicates. I am using iphoto 09 I updated a long time ago. I was attempting to clean up my application folder and remember seeing duplicate iphoto library I clicked on it and it brought up an empty Iphoto app. So I imported" all images" and now I have the situation I described including duplicates and lots of images I don't want. what happened to my original I photo app with all of my organized events?

I'm not clear on how you got here but unless you have two iPhoto libraries (depress the option key and launch iPhoto - it will show available iPhoto libraries and select each one in order to find the good one) you will either have to load your backup or start over

Never import an iPhoto library into another iPhoto library - it creates massive duplications and totally messes things up

Also the iPhoto library should not be in the applications folder - by default it is in the pictures folder - and generally that is the best place for it

Well what you did was import all the images on the Mac to an empty Library:

and remember seeing duplicate iphoto library I clicked on it and it brought up an empty Iphoto app.

Well it opened an empty Library...

    then:

    So I imported" all images"

As All Images includes all the thumbnails and various versions of the pics, that's what you get.

I would suspect that you still have your main library on the Mac...

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

When you go Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' you'll see the path to the library in that window.
